The game doesn't work when offline?

Lost my internet for a short whole and said needed to be logged into steam everytime i tried to launch this? but i was already logged in and able to play everything else offline. This isn't a MMORPG or a dedicated online game its just a single player game so i don't get it..

Oh they already knew about it a long time ago well thats just great. Nothin better then buying game that you later find out is handicapped.
