I noticed that Falco Lombardi [developer] was answering a lot of questions and comments about this game from 2017, 2018 ,2019 and 2020. (He helped me about jumping issues in 2019) The last message from him concerning Xing issues was in 2020. He was awesome when people were having issues with the game. He was excellent in explaining how to solve problems-I was impressed. I assumed he wasn't looking at anymore questions on this Xing forum this year and I thought he was gone until I noticed that he is online in steam. I wish he could help us with our game not playing on our new computers. I have studied every forum, Steam help pages and youtube videos on all the things to do to solve this problem and I have done them all. Nothing works. Woe is me.
On your April 27th post above "Unable to play X-ing -" I was going to Reply to your post when I accidentally clicked on Report this post" - I was in a panic because I saw several highlighted numbers to the right of your name on that post. The numbers have disappeared now so I was wondering if those several numbers that appeared was your friend ID number. Maybe I just assumed that I accidentally clicked on Report this post. Whew, I hope so. It was a mystery.
Yes, I have also played Myst, RealMyst-Masterpiece Edition, and Riven The Sequel to Myst. I loved them all. They are old games, however, there is an updated version now of Myst. I don't like combat or shooting games. I love the peaceful, exploring, walking simulators with puzzles and beautiful graphics like Xing. It is one of my favorite games. My absolute favorite game so far is Eastshade.
After reading the Obduction game forum, I have discovered that Obduction had a patch on Sept. 1st that reads: "Fixed crash on startup on some machines, like 11th gen intel machines. Very specific, we know! It has to do with an SSL library thing that Intel doesn't have pre-installed that causes issues with startup on Obduction."
I backed up and restored Obduction from my old laptop to this new computer and it works perfectly. I see that Xing has not had an update or patch since 2019 and I am wondering if that is the reason why it crashes on launch. I have an 11th generation intel computer and I am curious if my computer is the problem. Both Obduction and Xing use Unreal Engine as well. I posted a reply in the Obduction forum asking if the same issue might be the reason Xing might not launch/play.
1. Right click on "this computer" or This PC then properties (or right click the windows 10 button and go to System)
2, Then on the right hand side "advanced system settings"
3. On the Advanced tab choose Environment Variables
4. In THE SECOND window click NEW
Enter name in the first box
5. OPENSSL_ia32cap
Enter value in the second box
6. ~0x200000200000000
Then click OK
1 last important step
REBOOT SYSTEM
I hope this works for you. From many replies and comments that I read, this solution worked for others.
Thanks so much for sharing this fix <3
