PC: numbers 1 - 3 do not work, cannot access terraforming?

I play the PC version with my mouse and keyboard.
For some reason, the game doesn't acknowledge the numbers keys (the ones above letters). I can ignore this issue when gearing up buddies, I can click on them manually.

But to switch the robot from -objects moving- to -terraforming-, I need to press "3". But it doesn't do anything when I do so. (I literally tried pressing all keys on keyboard, one by one, if the function is hidden under something else, I'd find it; I also tried 3+shift and 3+ctrl)

For the record, I have the most basic logiitech WIRED keyboard ever. I have no issue with it in any other game.

What is happening here and what might be the fix please?
