Does level affect the life directly?

Does level offer a direct benefit to the life it relates to? Or does it simply just provide SP to spend on the skill tree? I read that there is no level cap, so would there be a point in leveling once the skill tree is maxed out?

I Believe it's just skill points that majorly effect lives, i think levels increase base HP/SP.
Also. the level cap is 100 and that's what is needed to obtain all skills in a tree.
