Worth it for CO-OP?
I will only play this game on coop with my nephew. Can we do the storyline together?

Can I enter his saved world if he plays single player on his own? This is important as he enjoys showing me his in game progress. He has more time to play then me, so if he enjoys it he may play on his own.

You cannot do the story line together but you can visit his island and look at how nice his terraforming is. You can then leave together for dungeon crawls and/or run around an open world map together for an hour. He will have to progress the main story on his own and so will you.

At the moment no.

Multiplayer online is limited to 1 hour sessions and challenges and ACCEPTING new NPC quests is not available. Poop dungeon activity is also singleplayer only in the open world.

its a serious alienation that they aren't allowing campaign co-op when there are so many games, indie and triple aaa that make this a standard half the time.
I haven't tried it, so I don't know how it plays, but -- you can supposedly play "online" as the bird on his game through steam remote-play, just not the official online co-op or cross-play (to my knowledge) ...just to clarify

The game is couch co-op but the 2nd person can only control the bird, even though you have 3 party members (AI) following you around. It's a travesty really.

To play this properly co-op you will need to purchase a 2nd copy of the game, and get to the place where you have a guild hall. Then you can join each other.

Life skills can progress in online co-op

Not really. Coop is for end game. Buy it first, or buy your nephew the game first and if one of you get to the point where multiplayer is a must, then go play then.

You can ask a friend for help in stoey afaik?
it it worth it to play the local co-op with one person controlling the bird?
STORY with own characters? NO.

Local Co-op where one player takes control of the little bird for a few functions? Yes

Multiplayer is really for grinding the trove dungeon and big open world area which is basically mid to end game, but it can be as early as a few hours in if you decide to ignore story in favor of grinding together
Me and my GF are waiting for a fully fledged co-op mode where we can play the whole game together before buying. The current iteration of co-op is of no interest to us.

Same, I would buy two copies of the game(one for me and my partner) in a flash if they added the main story line as coop. I hope the devs are listening.

I read something along the line like "remote play together" works with the bird too. Could be worth a try

Nope, no story co-op, it's essentially area locked play sessions to grind, level up, or loot items.

If you wanna do story together, the local-coop mechanic is the only way to do so, unless you mod and swap out Trip with a NPC character, and use remote play so someone can control that stronger character.

Or better idea if a mod lets multiple remote players control the other NPC party members so you can play in a story.
