How is the actual STORY?!

Soo my question is how is the actual STORY part of them game?! Because I was HOOKED on Fantasy Life 3DS version as a kid I mean I clocked right around 400 hours (I know!! 🫣😂) in the original! And (yeah maybe it was because I was a kid!!) but the STORY was AMAZING! And I’m seeing mixed stuff when I have been looking it up… some say it’s the fantasy life the remember X100 and others say it’s “meh”. I’ll be honest this has been my absolutely most anticipated game of this year! And I can’t wait to play it (I’m too broke to buy the pre-access lol) and I’ll be buying this NO MATTER WHAT! Haha! BUT, I’m wondering if I have my expectations set to high? I don’t want to be disappointed :( I’m TOTALLY OKAY with the “slow life” aspect! I mean that was the original one too!! Which too me is a major appeal because I want to explore and enjoy each life! But the STORY was just really really amazing in the original and I’m getting really sad thinking maybe this won’t be the game I was hoping. I think I may be getting head of myself, haha! I’m just exited but nervous due to some of the “reviews” I’ve read! Because I LOVE story rich games and I’m just hoping they made a really awesome story even possibly surpassing the magnificence of the original story?! We’ll see! What do you guys think; who have played the game so far?!

I personally find it very basic (like it’s not that deep nor is it meant to be) and feel like story isn’t the main feature or selling point in a game like this but I’m also new to the franchise and only 6 hours in, so maybe I am wrong.

As someone who replayed and 100%ed the first game like a week before playing this one, I can say this one can't match up to the first story wise.
I mean the amount of sass that any given character would randomly just pull on butterfly was fantastic. Getting mugged for your dosh as the first thing that happens to you? Peak writing.

That being said, this game is still great, on par even. I'll miss certain aspects of the first game though.
Being able to skip through dialogue though, what a goddess send. Thank Celestia...

Uhh 2 parts, half is comedy, the other is silly. I enjoyed the silly part, the comedy is meh.

The more I hear about the first game the more I hope they release it on steam, I'd buy it.

Thanks for your insight! However, just to let you know since you’re, as you said, new to the franchise the first game absolutely was story RIIICH.. it was a massive selling point at the time! The story was fantastic and the first game was just like this you picked a life and played through it exactly the same really other than they’re gonna have different stories and obviously this is a game that’s made over 10 years later so it’s much different. However it absolutely is a selling point (ESPECIALLY for those of us who grew up with the first one and remember that amazing story because there is such a massive player base that remembers and played that first one) it’s important (to me) to know if the story is on par or hopefully better it sounds like hopefully it’s on par, but it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be as good as the first one, but it’s definitely a selling point for many of us who remember the first one :) and the main point of the (first) game tied in with the “lives you lived) so amazingly well it was crazy. The first game was just… there’s nothing like it. It’s the best it was amazing!!

It's Saturday morning cartoon stuff. I can picture the weekly episodes, haha. It's a good match here but definitely super vanilla.
I'm enjoying it though, no subversion of expectations just for random drama.

Thank you everyone for your input. I’m looking forward to the game and I think I will just lower my expectations a bit as far as the story goes and just be more open minded and just enjoy the game and try my best not to compare it to the first one! I think I was just so nostalgic about the first one that I really wanted the second one to live up to it and possibly be even better than the first, but I don’t know you know everything’s better when you’re a kid,😂 especially the magic of something for the first time! I remember discovering fantasy life. It was just really a Diamond in the rough especially a little over 10 years ago where games like this tend to not be the most polished and this game really revolutionized things for me anyway especially on the 3DS you know handheld games were still hit or miss at that time and this was a big massive hit in my book and obviously so many others. I just can’t say it enough, It was a really amazing game! so I’ll just play this one for what it is.. it’s own game and try to Enjoy it for itself, and I’ll just keep an open mind but thank you for everybody’s thoughts and letting me know that it’s more of a kind of silly not so serious storyline but still OK nothing horribly bad lol😂
