You can be up to 4 people in a "room" (or so is what the description says on the store). If it's anything like the 3DS, you can invite people to your world to level together?

Uhh... Hard to say as I don't know how it works yet. Considering that there is anti cheat in this, I will say that everyone certainly will have their own progression going on.

It sounds like it will be in the style of PSO or MH. You bring your progression with you and you play together with other "lifes" (players). I don't know exactly how it works.

Coop in 3ds fantasy life you could not play main quest togeter (no progress or, event, on coop mode. You could do some carrier objectives like mining, cutting tree, etc. Once completed you had To leave coop mode To talk To npc to turn in job quests.

I hope at least the familial offline 2 players coop let you play all of the game or close To (if the online mode is limited)
I think the main part of coop is gonna be the roguelite dungeon thingy that is probably it's own thing not dependant on the story.

When you had the first game co-op, you could explore, craft, change life paths, story mode, dungeon. Basically the whole game with anther person with you :D

EDIT: dont quote me on story mode, this was over a decade ago!

at least this game allow u to switch lifes anytime during exploration so probably have to learn the lifes first before playing alone for exploration and online as well. so i think online will become a bit more better... but most likely maybe like 3ds on the story progress so i hope it not the case tho. lol but i really hoping to do co-op story than alone tbh. so maybe multiplayer might be ok compare to 3ds fantasy life.

Incorrect, you can't do the story or side-quests together in the original. I worry that may be the case here as well. The way it worked in the original was pretty stupid/limiting.

From the sticky thread on GameFAQs:

IV. MULTIPLAYER
~Unlocks after the prologue and during the first chapter. You will be instructed to return to the Guild Office and speak to the LINK clerk where Screenshots will also become available.
~Multiplayer allows you and two other people (total of 3) to visit your world and go on adventures. While in someone’s world, you are free to craft, fight monsters, trade and turn in bounties and travel to different parts of the map on your own.
NOTE: You cannot travel to a place on the map that has not been unlocked yet. For example, I cannot travel to the second town in your world if you haven’t beaten that chapter of the story.

~You communicate in multiplayer by using text chat and quick text to friends online. The only people you can play with online are those on your friend list. The conversations are also saved in a text log to easily keep up with conversation if one of you were busy. Think of the Best Friend feature in Animal Crossing.

~Things you can do in Multiplayer:
~Fast Travel
~Trade items/equipment/clothing
~Fight big monsters and receive bounty items
~Complete life challenges.

~Things you CANNOT do in Multiplayer:
~Bring pets along
~Side or Main quests *NOTE If you’ve accepted a side quest before you went online
~Save (This may change. I did test this but a second confirmation is appreciated

A Fantasy Life veteran (Bloody_Chaos17) on GameFAQs re-affirms this as well:

Quick list from my experience of co-op.

Things you can't do in co-op :
- use link mode's chat
- use quick map teleport (I mean house to house)
- talk to NPC quest so be sure to take quest before going online
- can only trade through a chest at the guild
- you can't change job
- you can't advance in the story
- you can't use the hairstyler

Good thing about co-op :
- exp is shared
- each player has his own loot so no need to fight over loot. Only bounties are unique and up to 3 for all the party.
- You get more exp if all players kill the same mob.
- Challenges like killing X mobs are count for players with the quest.
- Bounties reward multiply with the number of players
- You can teleport to players within your online party with the map.~Side or Main quests *NOTE If you’ve accepted a side quest before you went online
~Save (This may change. I did test this but a second confirmation is appreciated)

I also owned and played the first game myself and can confirm it. One of my worries/concerns is that they'll screw co-op up for this one too.

i really hope this game wont be the same :\ its f*ing $60
you either make actual good coop or just leave it as a singleplayer experience only imo otherwise it just disappoints

While you couldn't do questing together in the previous game there was still worth in joining your friends to try get more resources and exp, especially when you at times have a need for better gear, armour sets or ingredients to progress on your own game from special monsters

It wasn't "Play the whole game story with your friend" since the 3DS was mostly local connections and wifi where people were more active so it was whenever you caught up with a friend who also had the game and if they didn't have those friends in particular you would physically go to a game stores hangout space

Sure you could do a lot of that grinding on your own running back and forth but it was more fun with someone to join you while doing it and you all benefit

Eh I disagree. Its much simpler to do this than to have to synchronize your main quest and have someone be there through your whole story.

This is still better than having nothing, and the price tag doesn't change a single thing about how COOP should be.
