Color mod doesn't "inject". It edits a few bytes in an asset file, which will be reverted (overridden) to the original when the game is updated, effectively uninstalling the modifications. Though I doubt file changes get you banned, you should still only use it if you are willing to risk the consequences.
Whilst we have taken no direct action against users of the "color mod" due to the very limited effects on the game, I cannot stress enough that this is not something that Jagex officially supports.
Any third party programs or modifications which are not released or officially supported by Jagex cannot be guarenteed to continue to function.
We would strongly recommend that you not alter the game files after the inclusion of the new anti-cheating measures, as there is always the possibility that it could render the game unstable or otherwise prevent you from playing.
And can EAC be patched to allow the color mod easily?
I'm willing to take the risk of breaking my game (which I can fix with a fresh install anyways) as long as I'm not risking some lengthy ban.
If you just want to know whether it instantly bans you, I can test that later, but I doubt that.
