But after reading the 2 Mirram Webster disctionary definitions I'm going to say it is still a typo. I almost want to agree with you but it doesn't feel right. The only snake I know that would sidle (move sideways) is the Sidewinder. Agree? And the likelyhood they meant that specific snake in the Greenhouse is unlikely. (I'd need to play the game again to take a look at which snake image they used.)
It is a rather obscure hint, compared to the rest in the game, but I think it's used correctly.
Slides would have probably been better, especially in keeping with the difficulty of the game.
Even "It slithers along on shimmering scales" or something may have been better.
They chose a rather unique way of presenting it.
