Blood: One Unit Whole Blood

Am I playing this wrong?
So I'm playing on lightly broiled, but it seems a lot harder. It takes me many many, many tries to get through a segment in a level, because the enemies do a lot of damage and things like the monks can do it from afar, and many of the weapons either require you to be in a certain range to do it and some, like the pitchfork and flare gun, take some time to actually kill them. I'm just not sure if I'm missing something, I never played PC shooters in this era, and my days of N64 shooters do not translate to pc perfectly.

Oldschool shooters tends to be like that. Todays hardest difficulties are below "normal" dificulties back in there.

This is so true since when i played AAA game blood dragon and had my difficulty on hard, it felt like classic doom on "i am wuss difficulty" because it presented no significant challenge for me.

Blood has never been a forgiving game difficulty wise. My advice would be to learn the maps and enemy placements. Enemy placement is important especially on Extra Crispy as the enemies will absolutely destroy you if you don't know their placement. Another piece of advice is learn to leap-frog the enemies and to bunny-hop strafe them. Caleb's speed is a major advantage against the cultists.

Well it's as forgiving as, say shadow warrior and redneck rampage. Not really any extra difficult imo. But to ppl coming from console port fps', can be very difficult since there is no handholding.

True. If you are coming off console shooters and you jump on Blood for the first time it will beat you into the ground. However, that is to do with the fact Blood and 90's shooters in general required knowledge of the maps, enemies, as well as health and armour placement. Shooters nowadays you don't need map knowledge because levels are completely linear, enemies run to you or are neatly lined up for you, and health and armour packs are replaced by good ol' regen health.

Learn about Quick-Save and Quick-Load.

It really is needed in these older games, no matter how good you are. They are not as forgiving. If you die it means back to the beginning, full reset.. So save frequently. After each group of enemies if you are low on health etc... Running into unknown areas guns blazing will only get you killed here. There is always some zombie or cultist around the next corner and then it means game over. You don't want that.

The higher difficulties are for when you know the maps and have mastered the weapons. Then you can make a plan and know what to expect and manage ressources and ammo. That gives you the required advantage to even try those.

But as a beginner: quick-save, quick-save and load.

Another tip: "pitchfork" all the zombies. attack, dodge, attack, dodge.. I think you need to poke them 3 times to kill. Save your ranged-weapon ammo and explosives for cultists (because they can shoot back, so you have to end them quick and keep distance).

Thanks all, by just trying things out on my own I think I got it. I've played Duke Nukem and Doom before and while those were challenging, it seems that Blood is overall a much more challenging game, but once I got the hang of using the numpad instead of the arrow keys, its going a lot better. Also it seems that cover is a lot more important in this game. Also, I've played plenty of late 90s shooters on PC, so I know about our based god quick save and quick load. Except when it screws you, like it did a long time ago when I was first playing System Shock 2...quicksaved in my only save file right before getting killed. I had to play everything over again. EVERYTHING

This game is really hard. Even for an oldschool shooter.

Yeah, no. This one is just too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard. I mean, I've beaten the original two DOOM games on Ultra Violence and it wasn't nearly as hard as this game is on Lightly Broiled.

Challenge is good and this is fair challenge unlike making the enemy just endlessly respawn and have aimbot, like the higher difficulty is achieved in modern fps.

I disagree. Modern FPS on normal are not challenging, yes, but this is just another extreme. I'd never make it through these levels - on Lightly Broiled, the Normal setting of this game, if I didn't save-load like mad
