Dark Sector

Dark Sector

Unable to change resolution (Dark Sector has stopped working)
This isn't really a problem I'm still having, I'm just posting this here because I couldn't find help for this anywhere and had to come up with a solution of my own, so now I'm sharing it here.

The problem:
The game always starts with a low resolution (in my case, 800x600). Once you open the game and change it (in my case, to 1280x1024), the game closes and you see a windows error stating that 'Dark Sector has stopped working'.
Then, if you start the game again, you will still be in 800x600 resolution.

The solution:
  1. Find the Dark Sector folder (in Steam, go to Dark Sector properties, then 'Browse Local Files...')
  2. Open Configs/DS.cfg with notepad
  3. Change the following lines:
    ... Graphics.FullScreenSizeX=800 Graphics.FullScreenSizeY=600 ...
    to
    ... Graphics.FullScreenSizeX=1280 Graphics.FullScreenSizeY=1024 ...
  4. Save the file and you're good to go

Now you should be able to open the game and it will be in the desired resolution.
I did not test this against non-listed resolutions!

tried this, made the game unintelligible, very visually broken, and unplayable.

game needs update

I respect the warframe and soulframe devs a lot... but I think releasing this for free as a marketing stunt was a mistake.... It doesn't function well on modern tech. Mine created a visual and sound loop when changing it to 4k resolution... I get that 4k didn't exist when the game was made.... but then why is it an option?

Setting the resolution to my native monitor 1440p resulted in a big black vertical bar on the right of the screen (30%). Setting it to 1920x1200 seems okay.

Also remember to set DS.cfg to read only.

Because a lot of old games can kinda recognize resolutions they were never supposed to use, that's why something like a Woody Woodpecker PS2 game ported to PC can recognize every resolution you can think of but will not actually work past something like 1366x768

There's at least some documentation for most of the other issues that the game currently has.

Changing resolution worked for me, but weirdly now the game has no sound.

Changing res broke it for me here too.

That sound issue has to do with where your game is installed, try moving it to your C drive.

seems if its not a 4;3 image like 800x600 it stretches for wide full screen and looks awful.
the small FOV is headache inducing.

You can change the FOV by adding something like Graphics.FOV=90 right bellow the lines about resolution on the config file, also, I noticed the person who made this post forgot about the Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3 line that allows 16:9 to work properly.

You can read more about it here.[www.pcgamingwiki.com]

It changed res for me, but when I got in game, it lasted for like 5 seconds before it switched to desktop (no crash) and refused to display
