Jackal - the first miniboss

I can't seem to get past this armored behemoth. I hit it with all missles, it does not die. I, however, am turned to stew by the thing's cannon. Gamefaqs (a must-read for any serious gamer), has a walkthrough that I've read. Trainers fail or bork the game (since they haven't been updated since 2009!), and I would just like to get past this thing. What PC FPS game doesn't have a console command? Nowhere have I seen any built-in dev options, either.

Make sure you hit it in the face, between the armor plates. Took me 4 or 5 rockets to take it down.

thanks, I was doing the same as Slorp and after many attempts where the Jackal was spamming it's rocket attack (I was going insane after hitting it center mass with all the rockets)

but just killed it via making sure the reticule was directly on the eye before firing away from cover (that last bit b/c the player's RPG will hit invisible walls when near cover)
