How to run the game in 4k.

After years of trying I am finally able to run the game in 4k. Here is how to do it!
Yep 4k and no crashes so far. I am on the 5th chapter I think. Moths to the flame.

How I did it.

1. Launch the game and leave it at the default resolution. Exit the game after you start the first level.

2. Went here: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dark_Sector
and applied the widescreen fix.

Right click the game on steam. Go to properties. Browse game files.
Go into the "Configs" folder. Open the config file called "DS".

Find " [Windows_Config,/Types/Config] "

Add " Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3 " underneath it.

save the file. Close it. Right click on the file and go to properties. Check off the box for "Read Only". Click "apply" or "Ok".


3. Go here : https://dege.fw.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/
Download the latest stable release of dgVoodoo.
extract it to a folder. Keep it somewhere you can find it. (This works like magic for a lot of old games.)

4. Inside your extracted dgvoodoo folder find the folder called "MS". Open it and copy the files from the x86 folder and paste them into the main folder for Dark Sector. (This is the folder that has the game exe to launch the game.)

5. Go back to the main folder for dgvoodoo and copy the file called "dgvoodooCpl" and paste it into the main game folder for Dark Sector.

6. Launch "dgvoodooCpl" from inside the Dark Sector folder. inside the application that pops up click on the tab called "DirectX". On the far right, set the resolution to whatever you want. I used 3840 x 2160. Click okay.

7. Launch the game like normal. You should see "dgvoodoo" in the bottom right corner of the screen and your game should be running perfectly.

Now I just need some AI upscaled textures.

Please leave a comment if this helped you out. Like I said, I tried to fix this damn game for years and I was so happy I was finally able to get it running properly.

*Note: If you alt + tab out of the game you will come back to a black screen. You will have to restart the game but you should be able to continue from the last checkpoint.

I mean it looks better than running it in 1080p on a 4k screen. It fits the whole screen and works great. Try it out. It was worth it for me. It only took me 5 minutes to set it up.

but in the game menu you have to leave a resolution no higher than 1920*1080 otherwise you will have graphic glitches 👍

In the game menu just leave it at whatever the default res is. It’s like 800 x 600. Only change the res in the dgvoodoo app. The in game res settings cause issues.

I've had this game in my library for years. I never looked into playing it in 4K till now. I messed up the guide and it looked kind of right but it looked blurry at the lower right hand corner. I read the guide you provided again and now it looks fantastic! Thank you!
