The render seemed vertically stretched when I set resolution to the Deck's native 1280x800, and after changing it to 1280x720, it crashes every time I tried to load a save. Now, even after changing it back, it keeps crashing on save load, but works fine when starting a game from scratch... I'll do some more testing and tweaking
now Im trying different proton versions.
edit: Proton 7.0-6 seems to work so far, both 800p and 720p work so far. only some minor stutters here and there
This apparently does the trick, I'll test it now
For the stretched resolution, this fix works: https://steamcommunity.com/app/29900/discussions/0/34094415866577362/?ctp=4
If you don't want to go through those hoops in desktop mode, you can just play in 4:3 (800x600) and use FSR to get a crisp image.
The Steam Deck is the perfect machine for playing PS360/Wii games, or even 128 bits era games, It has the perfect amount of power and the screen is ideally sized to play these games and enjoy their UIs. it's unfortunate these games often require messing around to get them working without crashing or such. I remember I had to fight a lot against the machine itself to prevent Red Faction Armageddon from crashing every checkpoint.
I don't know how many games I could not have enjoyed on this system without people giving tips on the Steam forums.
Also had the same crashing problem at the Helicopter on my Deck, can confirm switching to 7.0-6 worked like a charm.
