I'm guessing that the problem lies in your GPU...upgrade!
620 is "modern" LOW end.
I can tell you that this game was/is awesome with an old middleclass card. Even from 2006.

Savipallo, did you figure out why this is happening? I'm experiencing the exact same problem on a high-end system: FPS drops to insane low numbers in derby after a few wrecks.

This is happening to me on my retail copy as well (Updated to the latest version). The strange thing is, I used to play this on my really old PC without any problems, but it runs REALLY badly during derbies on my current (and much more powerful) rig.

I think the reason why the game is doing this is because it can't handle multi-cored CPU's.

PS: Apologies for the necro, but there has to be a way to fix this. F2 is one of my favourite racing games and it saddens me the fact that I can't play it anymore. I tried forcing the game to run at one core using a batch file and set affinity options. Nothing worked.

hey well i think the particles of the fire of the cars may be causing that, try decrease a bit the graphics and see if it stops, if not so i dont know whats happening

That is strange. It runs on my 8500GT 720p@60fps on medium with no major fps drops.
Try running the game in Win XP compatibility mode.

It doesn't work. It's the fact that most of us have multi-cored CPU's and the game really doesn't like that. The only way to get the game working is by forcing the PC to run on a single core.

I got the same problem, specially when playing derby the game lags incredibly slow when more than 5 cars wrecked. I have a fast 3.2 Ghz 8-core AMD CPU and Nvidia GTX1060. Tried to change the compatibility mode, turning off the muli-core to leave just one, nothing, anyone found a solution??

The weird thing is that my laptop with INTREGATED GRAPHICS always runs the game smoothly @60fps... soo I think it's not about your hardware. Try updating or drivers or something idk.
