Bad Ending / Pessimist? [SPOILER]

Hey everyone!

Somehow I can't manage to get the "bad" ending. You know, where Howard tries to stab Loath Nolder. Either they changed that part of the game as well, or it's a bug. Because it's not working the way it did in the old game, no matter what I say when I encounter Nyarlathotep, Howard refuses to stab Loath when I try.

I thought the pessimist achievement is the counterpart to the Lesser of Two Evils achievement, but now that I think about it, is there even a bad ending in this Director's Cut?

Or do I have to play the game a second time?

The global statistics say some of you already got that achievement, so anyone who can help me out here?

To get the baddest ending you need your family ring... In DC edition, it is not in the bedroom anymore :)

Still didn't get the Pessimist Achievement. So, is that really about something different?

For Pessimist you must have the family ring. When given a choice select the Yes option. However do not stab Loath, instead stab the crystal. There were actually three endings. If you stab Loath you get the baddest ending not the Pessimist.

Thanks, I already got it, but seriously, how is anyone supposed to get that without walkthrough? I mean, why does the ring make such a big difference...?

Just finished the game, hope someone can help. I'm not sure how to unlock the "pessimist" ending or the bad ending. No matter what dialogue option I choose, I can only stab the crystal, unlocking the "lesser of two evils" achievement. I used the powder from the ring in order to get the dagger, so I don't have it in the inventory. Is there another way?

You need to collect the family ring from a statue in Nathaniel's Secret Room (The one next to the kitchen, with all the strange statues). If you have that ring in your inventory you get the achievement as soon as you break the crystal. (You also need the ring in your inventory if you want to stab Loath)

Weird. I got Pessimist by having the ring, saying "No! I have other choices!", then stabbing the crystal. (aka the Tartaros ending)

I got Lesser of Two Evils by saying "Yes, I will follow the path of my ancestors", then stabbing Loath. (aka Metamorphosis ending)

There is a third ending (regardless of what you say), but you cannot have the ring in your inventory. (aka Next Time ending)

I'm confused here, I actually had the ring but used it in the bowl combined with gas to make the fumes thing, allowing me to have the dagger back in the old mansion underground....after that it's not in my inventory anymore what's up with that? I cant get the bad ending either...

You need a different ring than that. It's in the Secret Room of Howard's grandfather Nathaniel, right next to the kitchen, on a statue's finger. After that you can get the bad ending.

omg...i have multiple saves so its technically possible but would involve lots and lots of playing the same part again...are you positive about that ring being there? you know with all the differences between director's cut and all?

Yes. It's that seal ring of Howard's family, in the old edition the ring was in a drawer in one of the bedrooms of the grandparent's house, back then it was almost impossible to miss. I got all the achievements, so yes, I'm positive it's there now.
