I can't seem to activate the rats, can anybody help?

Ive gone from tomb to the mansion, through the library to the basement, and back again several times, but I can't seem to activate the rats.

Is this some kind a bug?

Does anyone have any advise?

After you've finished investigating the crypt, a storm will start outside. Leave the crypt and go inside the Mansion, go upstairs into the library and walk towards the figure sitting beside the window until it disappears. Afterwards try to leave the room and the rat sequence should activate. Took me a couple tries to make it work, but it works.
