Switch the text on armours and weapons to latin
It looks terrible in english, switch it to latin, it will look alot better and fit into the universe better.
At the moment I feel it just looks ... off.

Or at least, make all the letters capital. This is the Imperium, there's no such thing as lower case devotion to the Emperor.

The pedantry is strong with this thread. Although I do prefer the pseudo-latin, and agree that stylistically this is more appropriate for the death wing.

Then again, people would not be quoting "I am wrath, I am steel, I am the mercy of angels" all over social media.

google translate english to latin gives:

"iratus sum , ego sum ferrum ego misericordiam angelorum".

From a game marketing perspective, I think they made the right choice, hopefully they will allow mods and someone can have "putidae phallus" written on the sword.

+1 for this quotable though "there's no such thing as lower case devotion to the Emperor".

Puritas is usually designated to Adaptus Soroitas not Space Marine Chapters.

Don't worry, I know, I'm being a bit pedantic

That's another thing, what is "the mercy of angels"? How can you be it? That sounds off to me.

Something like "I am his Angel of Death" sounds better IMO. It fits with the whole "And they shall know no fear" spiel.

Thank you

Pretty sure the Catholic Space Nazi Nuns with Guns and the Catholic Space Nazi Warrion-Monks have equal rights to the concept of purity. Especially the Dark Angels, with not only one of the most stable and pure gene-seeds, but a particular penchant for appearing to be the MOST PURE AND LOYAL OF ALL LEGIO- I MEAN CHAPTERS.

True, I recognise that people use english, but english isn't the sole issue I'm having, most of the single words used are pracitcally the same between english and latin, or their meaning would be easy to pick up (purity is puritas, pretty similar).

My issue is aesthetic not linguistic or comprehensive, and I should have made that point better in my original post.

Fair enough. I still contend that aesthetically, it's within canon and should be a non-issue. Everyone's entitled to their own personal tastes though, so no hard feelings.

Using Purity as an example, imagine it in the gothic script (I was going to use examples in the Old English Font, but all caps in that is a bit ott and really hard to read, but the lower case styling is perfect)

"Purity" is what is currently there

"Puritas" is the same thing in Latin, this in some ways isn't any better

"PURITAS" would be my top choice

"PURITY" would my second choice

Like I said in the original post, there is no such thing as lower case devotion to the Emperor

er... This is a very sticky situation, actually. Keeping to your example, there are actually about six latin words that can all be translated to "Purity". Latin doesn't follow the same grammatical rules as English, so often an entirely different word has virtually the same definition or translation based solely on context. In your own example, the proper word to place on the banner would be "Sanctitas"- meaning "of Holy ordinance" or "Holy Purity" or "High Virtue". Another word that would fit would be "Castitas", which means "In Pure State".

I have this sneaky suspicion that the slogan on the sword is based on the original intonation from the Second Edition Warhammer 40K rulebook that was attributed to Grand Master Azrael of the Dark Angels in M40:

"With Wrath and Steel, I am become His Angel of Death!", which is inscribed on his own Power Armor as:

"Ferro et indignatus sum Angelum mortis"

Note the grammar? A direct translation from Google would say "Metal and Rage make the Angel of Death". Here's the rub: Google Translate isn't properly configured for tense and contextual rules of Latin (or just about any other language for that matter).

Amusingly, "Death" and "Mercy" in Latin are just tenses of the same word. "Mortuus" (acting tense) for Mercy and "Mortis" (past tense) for Death. To confuse thongs further, the word "Puritas" is also potentially translated into "Mercy", again dependent on context.
