Second to that would probably be the storm bolter with Hellfire ammo. Hell of a gun that...
I'd use the hell out of the lightning claws and Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield if only they came with a short range tactical teleporter as part of their wargear/kit.
In case it isn't obvious, I love the assault cannon. Don't let me have it in co-op if youre going to turn friendly fire on. If so, then get behind me.
Yeah, until I tried the Vengence the only thing that made me consider going away from the Force Sword (let alone the axe!) was the Assault Cannon and even then I couldn't bring my self to do it.
I'm willing to bet getting that will change the risk factors of weapons quite a bit. Flamer Jams scared the crap out of me when I tried it.
Yeah not having a response to ranged threats aside from lightning and prayers to the god emperor (which don't work unless your a SoB naturally) bites, and having to potentially give up the inferno power to slot teleport doesn't appeal to me. Still I'll have to at least try out the Spear under combat conditions.
Assault Cannon is gooood stuff. It honestly tempted me quite a bit, but if I'm a Libarian, I want my psi powers blast it!
Vengence is just a functional swap of the AC/20 (shout out Mechwarrior/Battletech) to less bullets and more punch per bullet... also notably less reliable then the basic AC. I basically never let Brother Barachel stop using his until I tested the Thunderhammer and I'm still torn on that being 'better'. I think it's probly equal to in all honesty.
The Vengence has issues with longer ranges if you don't fire essentially semi auto single shots, but is suprizingly capable by doing that. It's not Hellfire Bolts, but then that looks like it's the Sniper Rifle equivalent here.
Glad I got some input. I think MP will have more of a 'we need the right mix of weapons' situation then SP's 'what works best for me' situation. Looking forward to it honestly.
I sure hope this game gets an overhaul soon, specifically in the weapons/loadout department. I need more than 2 or 3 powers for a psyker, and I need more control over the loadouts of my companions to be happy with this game (in spite of its myriad other flaws)
A reliable weapon is my choise and at the moment my favorite is Redemption: You can trust it, you can shoot behind junctions (bullets bounce from walls), you can stagger the enemies and you can hit multiple targets doing constant damage.
Only downside is that Redemption doesn't perform greatly on ranged targets.

Redemption Bolter, meh I never got along with Shotguns too well...
Hellfire Bolter is pretty darn good, lotsa accurate damage and good fire rate to boot.
Assault Cannon is pretty damn good, Vengeance not so much for me - just never seemed to hit and jammed all the time, while the AC just sprayed so many bullets that stuff was bound to die...
Regular Plasma aint bad, and neither is the Spear of Caliban, but both are very annoying to me because of the stupid hitboxes of your supposed "helpers" - they just block half my shots by being a meter away from the line of fire it seems like... gnah.
My most used weapon is still the Heavy Flamer though - for the sheer feeling of "BUURRRRRRRRRNNNNN XENOS!!!!!!!!!" it instills when you lay into a horde of 'Stealers with it. And it seems to do reasonably well against the tougher stuff out there too. combined with Spontaneous Combustion and Vortex of Doom for two on-demand kills on almost any Xenos that comes around...
I am sooo with you on that -[đдқ]- Tyrendian!!! I use the heavy flamer so often, it feels amazing to hoze down xenos with promethium :D
