Gotta Upgrade Dat CPU!
Ok, I finally got alittle cash so i'm willing to shell out some dough for a New CPU and some RAM since those two seem to be the anchor holding my GTX 1070 back.

My Issue is that my Motherboard's Chipset is AM3 or AM3+ so i'm stuck with AMD.

ATM I have an FX-6300 Six Core.

Any ideas for upgrades?

PS: If I was to set a budget, below 500 dollars.

any i5 or i7 above 3570k/3770k and overclock it and your golden, if you want to shell out for new hardware go for latest i5! and a budget below 500, means you can buy both a cpu and mobo.

Nothing other then intel will suffice, Stay vigilant brother.

I know Intel is better, but my Motherboard does not support them. I am literally FORCED to buy AMD or replace my motherboard. Thanks though.

i would wait to see the price of the new AMD Ryzen 4 core/8 thread CPUs before upgrading.

Oooo. A CPU to surpass Metal Ge- I mean Intel?

I'll wait and see then.

Gotta go for AMD Ryzen :D

You're going to need to replace your motherboard either way, Ryzen is AM4.

wait till, next zen benchmarks are out. see how it does.
I have a 2nd gen i-5, and so far the game is not giving me any problems.

Well my motherboard is a GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0.

It won't be compatible? Because if not then I might as well buy an intel + Motherboard bundle.

I have a AMD FX 8650 @ 4.2GHz with a GTX 980 with little lag.(although before I updated to today's new drivers I was getting less FPS) Have not had one issue with my 600+ games I have.

It is compatible with your mobo.

A) You're conflating a mobo's socket type and and its chipset, which - while related - are not the same thing. AM3+ socket boards have somewhere around five varying chipsets IIRC.

B) So long as you have at least 12 gigs of DDR3 1600 memory, there's no point in upgrading that.

C) You can get an Intel i7 4790k processor, an Asus Z97-E/USB3.1 mobo, and a Noctus NH-12S CPU fan for a total of 520 bucks atm on newegg.com. (Trust me, the 4790k NEEDS aftermarket coolers if you intend on overclocking)

Upgrading to Intel is well worth it, far more than you might think looking at product spec pages; even if AMD and Intel were to create processors with the same number of cores, clock speed, caches, etc, the Intel processor would exceed AMD's because of their respective processor architecture design philosophies.[www.tomshardware.com] Which doesn't even account for how the majority of games are optimized for Intel processors and usually take advantage of hyperthreading to some degree or another.

Thanks. I'll add those to my cart and think about it.

Get intel, ADM is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage when it comes to their CPUs.

GPUs eh, i get them ♥♥♥♥, but intel x nvidia is just a killer combo and they work good.

Ok now I am not going to say you are wrong to like intel over AMD but you are wrong in saying, "the majority of games are optimized for Intel processors and usually take advantage of hyperthreading to some degree or another." Now before I start, just to remind you this is AMD CPUs I am speaking of and have nothing to do with AMD GPUs, also I am stating this for games from about 5 years ago on. I will agree that older games were intel based.

As it stands right now game makers(ie Devs) are moving toward AMD CPUs. Now this isn't limited to AAA game studios. I am making a broad statement for indie Devs and AAA game companies alike. My company and I are in that boat. Not to say we don't support intel, however we find that AMD has more to offer for game design than intel.

As for hyperthreading: there are very very VERY few games that use hyperthreading. So using as a selling point is almost useless. Unless you are using it to sell the fact you can play a game, surf the net, while listening to music. Then it's a valid point.....however I can do that with my rig so again..... I do not fault you for liking intel. In fact I used to be a big advocate for intel. Now I can not see myself going back. For the price I seem to get more.

Edit: to use the site you quoted from http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/354727-28-does-hyperthreading-gaming
