Norton Antivirus - Trojan False Positive
Hello everyone,

We're currently aware of an issue affecting Norton antivirus users, whereby the game executable is detected as a Trojan Horse.

This is a false positive result. The game contains no viruses or malware. The detection is the result of Norton's detection algorithms incorrectly identifying The Escapists as a virus.

You can help us overcome the problem by reporting the false positive result to Norton using this form: https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/

Depending on the type of Norton software in use, you may also be able to add The Escapists folder to a list of files excluded from detection - see your software's help documentation for details. DO NOT simply disable your antivirus software, it's doing a good job of keeping your computer safe! Those of you using shared computers - make sure to ask the owner's permission before making any changes to AV software.

Finally, there will be many reports of this issue in and around the community forums until Norton update their detection rules. Please take time to point affected players to this thread - they'll likely be confused and a bit worried, and I want to make sure that everyone is put at ease as quickly as possible!

Thanks for your patience everyone,

MT17

Would this be the reason the game isn't launching for me? It is just stuck at launching it.

This is strange because my Norton doesn't treat the .exe file as malicious.

Strange, Norton must of recently updated and marks the .exe as malicious once again. Billy Da Explorer and paulbennett1967, once you remove it from any scans verify your game cache and it should reinstall the removed/quarantined files and it should launch.

Having the same problem with Kaspersky. I've excluded it and can play again but I am a little concerned. Is this just a bug that needs fixing?
