Game crashing when loads (via Epic Games)

OVERVIEW:
I got the game on the Epic Games Store. But it just doesn't work. When I load it up, it just crashes... or just closes.

STEPS:
1. Get the game from the Epic Games Store
2. Load the game (doesn't matter if it's from the exe or the launcher)

RESULT:
It loads for a split second then closes

EXPECTED RESULT:
Doesn't close right after.

I know you will most likely won't see this but I can't report it on Epic as far as I know.

We recommend that if you are launching the game from the exe, that you try and do so through the Epic Launcher instead to see if this helps.

So that we can better understand the problem and recommend a solution, we would like to request that you please send us your DxDiag information via the steps below:

1. Hold down the Windows Key and press R
2. The Run dialog should appear. Type dxdiag in the available text field.
3. Click OK
4. Click Save All Information
5. Set the Save as type to Text File (*.txt)
6. Save the file DxDiag.txt to your Desktop so it is easy to find.
7. Open the .txt file, copy all the contents > Paste all the contents to a free text hosting service such as https://justpaste.it/ http://textuploader.com http://freetexthost.com

Once we have this information, we will do our best to further assist you in resolving this matter.

I had the same problem, if you run the game via the Epic launcher it will work, you only have to do this once it would appear, after that the game should launch via the desktop shortcut without any problems.

It seems to be the language selection screen that is causing the issues.

Same issue here, the game crashes when launched from Epic launcher or executable. The EFIGS version crashes when the language selection is shown, the pol and rus in the main menu.

Go to TheEscapists_EFIGS.exe and in the properties set it to run as administrator in compatability mode for Win XP SP3.

You will still need to launch it for the first time using the epic games launcher .

After this it should work just fine.

Can confirm that this got the game running for me. Thanks for the help!

It was baffling that we had to come back to Steam to find a solution and that support is so limited on Epic Games, but what can you do I guess, lol.

Same result here: Game from Epic Games launcher.
Game crash (or closes, it does not report any crash) at LANGUAGE selection screen.

So, could someone send file Documents\The Escapists\settings.cfg
which will probably allow us to get past to language selection screen.

I have some progress
The russian and poland exes go up to the title screen.

My guess is that it doesn't register we have it on steam so it closes as an anti-piracy measure. The simple solution would be to have it do what Rayman Legends does on epic AND what Uno does on steam -
downloads gives it to you on another service aswell as on the respective service.
They both give it to you on Uplay so it should be possible to have it give it to you on Steam. To stop the anti-piracy block it from Epic users

That is how the Russian and Polish ones work for everyone
