Can't download custom maps

I'd like to preface that this question seems over-asked so I apologise if this has been solved previously, but I couldn't find any solutions.

I played the Escapists on mobile initially and bought it on desktop a few weeks ago for the level editor. When I subscribe to a map in the workshop and click download in the custom maps menu the map doesn't show up and no file appears in the Documents/The Escapists/Custom Maps folder.

I have tried:

• Clearing download cache in Settings/Downloads
  
• Verifying integrity of the game's files
  
• Uninstalling the game
  
• Deleting my Custom Maps folder
  
• Unsubscribing to all maps and re-subscribing to them
  
• Deleting the appworkshop file in steamapps/workshop

It would also be important to note that I can download older maps completely fine and it works as intended; I've downloaded Blackbeard's Ship, USS Lockwing and Grounded with no problems.

Sorry to hear that you are having this issue - it could be due to having your documents folder protected by another application - let's try the following:

1. Open Windows Defender Security Center
   
2. Click on Virus and Threat Protection
   
3. Go to Virus and Threat Protection settings
   
4. Turn off the Controlled Folder Access option
   
5. Restart your system
   
6. Test the game

Please confirm; whether you are clicking the download button in the prison select screen and whether there are any files at all in your Documents > The Escapists > Custom Maps folder.
If you do not see the folder, then please make one:
Go to documents > The Escapists > then create this exact folder, try using capitals: Custom Maps.

When you load the game and you are choosing a new game and then the map, on the right-hand side there are 3 options. There is a house icon for maps, a star icon for DLC, and then a steam icon at the bottom, can you please make sure you are clicking this and then click 'download' to show the maps.

You can then choose which map you want to play and click continue.

Hi, both before and after clicking the download button, there are no new files in the Custom Maps folder.

We can then test the map ourselves and see whether it downloads correctly or not.

Of course - there isn't a particular map as it has happened with every "new" map I've tried to download (I'm not sure where the line draws on "new," but a few old maps have worked fine) but this map was the first I encountered the problem on: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2442895403

This map has worked. I've also found success in the following:

The problem resides, for some reason, in newer maps.

Thanks for confirming - there haven't been any game updates for a while, so we are unsure of what might be causing it. It may be an issue with the uploads themselves. We will keep monitoring the issue for newer maps

It would also be important to note that I can download older maps completely fine and it works as intended; I've downloaded Blackbeard's Ship, USS Lockwing and Grounded with no problems.

If you do not see prisons that you have downloaded in the workshop appearing in game, follow this path on Windows:
Local disc\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\298630

find the map by searching through all the files until you see normal letters/typing in one of the documents. Then convert the file from .bin to .cmap and paste it into your custom maps folder: \Documents\The Escapists\Custom Maps

This should fix your download problem.
