Game exe detected as trojan virus
Hey, devs, fellow players,
Really loving the game, haven't made much progress lol, but my antivirus software (symantec endpoint detection) just shot me an notice saying that they detected a gen 2 trojan virus. The location? The Escapists .exe file.

Anyone have this happen to them?
Devs, got an explanation?

I'm sorta suspecting that my anti-virus is messing up but I just want to be cautious.

Scan type: Auto-Protect Scan
Event: Security Risk Found!
Security risk detected: Trojan.Gen.2
File: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Escapists\TheEscapists.exe
Location: Quarantine
Computer: HAL
User: SYSTEM
Action taken: Quarantine succeeded : Access denied
Date found: Wednesday, December 31, 2014 1:11:51 AM

MOD EDIT:

Hi guys,

DO NOT disable your antivirus programs!

As above, The Escapists contains no malware or virus - this is a false positive. Those of you using Norton, you can help us stop this from happening again by reporting the false positive to them. Use this form to do so: https://submit.symantec.com/dispute/

In the mean time, we'll look at what we can do on our end.

Thanks for letting us know everyone :)

I dont personally own the game but I know alot of people who do and I have not a heard of a problem like this until I read this post so I believe it might just be your antivirus.

There seems to be a hell of a lot more people who have been reporting this in lately. Kinda worrying.

Don't use crap/free antivirus programs and you won't have any issue. The is no virus in this game or any game on Steam for that matter. A poor antivirus program will detect almost anything as a virus throwing out false positives all day.

well symantec isn't crap freeware. and just because there hasnt been a game infected with a virus yet, doesn't mean that we shouldn't be cautious. How can you be so assured that everything is safe here?

I just got this using Norton as well

Norton 360 and yes... just happened 3 minutes ago. Trojan.Gen.2

Update: I let norton delete it and did an integrity check for the game. It replaced the EXE and I rescaned. Everything seems fine. It may have been something strange with the update installing weird but the replaced file seems fine now.

Unbelieveable how often this is happening D: I got the same thing as well as all of you and its quite annoying if this is actually a legitament "VIRUS" but here's what i got from Norton Internet Security:

Filename: theescapists.exe
Threat name: Trojan.Gen.2
Full Path: c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\the escapists\theescapists.exe

Now as of now im keeping the game uninstalled to be on the safe side... But i really hope this is just a false alarm. Also, it seems like this "VIRUS" first appeared yesterday in the early morning hours of December 31, 2014 which is suspicious to me because why then? Finally, i hope the game devs come to recognise this issue for previous owners of the game and for new owners who may just want there money back because of this terrible issue...
