Welcome to The Escapists’ community hub! Here, you can interact with fellow inmates from all over the world, including myself as community manager for Team17 and ChrisD – creator of The Escapists.

This thread is designed to answer some of the most commonly asked questions here in the forums, and you should make sure to read the information below to see if it answers your question before starting a new thread. The info here is updated periodically, so if there’s something that you think is missing let me know by replying to the thread!

THE FORUM GOLDEN RULE

Before we dive into the FAQ, I’d like to tell you about a BUTT-KICKING piece of functionality. It’s called the search bar, and it can save you loads of time!

Before making any post on the forum, you should search to see if similar discussions already exist. If they do – contribute to them! There’s many reasons for you to take time to do this, including forum cleanliness and the fact that it makes our job infinitely easier when all feedback on a particular subject can be found in the same place. Please, please, please – search before posting!

How Do I Buy The Escapists?

How Do I Make a Bug Report?

If something in the game isn’t working as it should, the first thing you should do is visit the Solved Problems board and use the search function to see if there’s already a solution to what you’re experiencing. If you can’t find anything there, head over to the Report a Problem board and make a bug report!

How Do I Get Support For A Technical Issue?

If you’re having a problem which isn’t a bug, you can contact Team17 for help. The best way to do that is to email us on [e-mail]. Be sure to include as much detail about the problem as you can, and place the name of the game you’re having a problem with in the subject line.

How Do I Offer Feedback & Suggestions?

We’re always open to your feedback and suggestions and you should use the forum MEGATHREADS to tell us about them.

What The Heck Is A MEGATHREAD?

It’s like a thread, only mega.

What Happened in This Game’s Early Access?

Early Access has now finished. During Early Access, we steadily released prisons one-by-one and set Early Access prisoners the challenge of finding bugs and problems, escaping in the process. Early Access was awesome, and we used it to change the game from one man’s creation to the brain-child of thousands and thousands of players.

A warden’s job is never done though, and Early Access’ end doesn’t mean that development has ended. There’s lots more to come for The Escapists – and we want your thoughts on everything. Keep it coming!

What Can I Expect When I Buy The Escapists?

You can expect to go through the 7 stages of being a prisoner:


1. Confusion:
Where the hell am I? How did I get here? Why is this man hitting me with a bar of soap in a sock?

2. Discovery:
You’ll learn the prison routine, how to avoid trouble, how to get what you need through crafting and pilfering. You might even use community resources such as the Wiki, Subreddit or Steam Guides

3. Defeat:
You’ll get beaten. You’ll get beaten by someone else. You’ll have all your stuff confiscated by guards and you’ll be thrown into solitary confinement.

4. Resolution:
You’ll decide to break out. You’ll plot an escape plan. You’ll masterfully weave that plan into reality, using the resources available to you – both human and material.

5. Panic:
With so much at risk now, you’ll start to panic. You’ll feel the pressure of having 3 weapons and a makeshift shovel in your cell’s desk. You’ll wonder if your cell mate is going to snitch. You’ll practically have a panic attack at every roll call.

6. Escape:
You’ll put your plan into action. It will not work flawlessly, but through improvisation and general genius – you’ll get out anyway. Your pride in this feat will exhilarate you so extensively that you’ll exclaim your glory to everyone you know.

7. Institutionalisation:
You’ll commit more crimes, just to get the thrill of escaping once more. Slowly, but surely, you’ll destroy the reputations of many prison wardens – with each facility being harder than the last. You’ll no longer be a prisoner, you’ll be an escapist.

How Many Prisons Are In The Game?

6 main prisons + 3 special prisons which were made to celebrate special events.

Can I Make My Own Prisons?

A prison editor is in development as a standalone app. It will be free. Using it, you’ll be able to create and share your own prisons with The Escapists’ community. Please stay tuned for a release date!

Are There Any Plans For Multiplayer?

We are currently investigating the technical possibility of implementing a multiplayer mode for The Escapists. At this stage, we cannot promise anything. Stay tuned for an announcement.

Is The Game Available For Mac / Linux / Other Platforms?

Check out the store page to find out which desktop platforms The Escapists’ is currently available on. The Escapists is also out now on Xbox One.

If I Buy The Game On One Platform, Do I Get The Others Too?

If you buy the game for one Steam platform, you’ll get access to the other Steam platforms as and when they are released.

This does not apply to console platforms.

Is There Any Controller Support?

Not at this time and we currently have no plans to add it. Should we receive substantial feedback requesting this feature from the community, we’ll reconsider!

I’m a Games Reviewer! Can I Have A Free Code?

We do not issue free copies of the game to reviewers outside of those that we’ve invited to work with us.

I’m a YouTuber/Live Streamer! Can I Create Videos/Streams Of This Game & Monetise Them?

It sucks that you have to ask, and the answer is yes – absolutely. Go crazy. We want you to be rewarded for your efforts.

Dear gosh no - no, no, no, no, no. That is NOT true. Anyone can create videos of The Escapists and upload them to YouTube. Anyone can monetise their videos. If anyone tells you that you do not have our permission to do this, kick them in the shins and send them to me.

As per the FAQ:

I just wanna make sure! If i have mac and i buy the game, i get the other platforms but i can't play it yet because the platforms are not realeased. Do my Escapists game will automatically update when the platforms are realeased?

hey, i just bought the game, but i only realized that it didn't support windows until after i purchased it.

QUESTION: WHEN WILL THIS GAME COME TO MAC!?!?!?!?!?!?

The game is coming to mac, we don't currently have a release date!

Please add controller support! It would be easier for me because some keys on my keyboard stick quite often, and with a controller, you can sit back and play the best game in the world, The Escapists

Hey I was just wondering. Someone asked if it will come on mac and you said to check the store page but that's not any help. there are 638 people that want to play escapist on mac but can't. Will it even come out on mac. Because all these 638 people spent 15$ and we want to play. If you could try to make it come out and post a release date i will LOVE YOU SO MUCH.Just plzzzzzzzzz help try to get it on Mac.

Ok, before any of the trolls yell at you, im just going to say that its been often stated in the FAQ that the devs are currently making a mac version which will not cost any extra to those who have already bought it.

Also, there is currently no release date for it.

Im really excited for it too, so you're lucky i posted this before any of those annoying trolls who are fed up with people asking about the mac release answered you.
