DRM-Free version?
Just wondering if it's possible to obtain a DRM free version of the game as i'd plan to use the game on more computers, some of which don't allow me to run steam (hi school!) .

We're sticking with Steam for the forseeable future guys.

That's sad. :'(
I'll have to stick to FTL for now then.

If possible, it would be great if The Humble Bundle Store could sell it. (What terminology would be used there?)

Steam is DRM-Free, as you can play games without the need of being online.
But, I understand what you mean. :P

Steam is a DRM itself, as you can't play (most) steam games without Steam.

Yeah, but it's not always-online DRM now that I think of it.

I'd buy this instantly.. if it didn't require Steam (and I don't even have Windows).

I hope you'll provide a DRM-free version once you release the game, so I can join the fun.

But . . . but . . . you're on Steam, so you must use it. What's the big deal? If you like the game, just buy it. Who cares if it's on Steam?

It's on Humble Bundle. It needs Windows, also, why do you want a DRM free version? You can play this game without internet access anyway.

I imagine they'll probably stick with Steam until release, as it's an easy way to keep the game updated. Not that you can't do Early Access without it (see Prison Architect), but having the game automatically update and remind people that it exists is probably pretty handy, not to mention Steam also has the announcements and forums tied in.

I disliked Steam on principle before I used it. I dislike it even more now I use it.

I care if it is on Steam because when Steam decides to throw a fit (and it does, *frequently* for me, the latest being that it would get to login, then consume 100% CPU and never start.. even after re-installation), I won't be able to play the game that I paid for and I just don't find that acceptable.

Buying it on Humble Bundle will net me just a Steam key so it being on there makes no difference.

I may be able to get it working on my non-Windows platform. Even if it doesn't work now, it may do in the future. The thing is, it requiring Steam means I would have to get 2 things working :)

Yeah, don't get me wrong, Steam does provide some useful tools and I don't have a problem with it existing or being used.. I have an issue with it being used _exclusively_. Throwing the game files at Humble/Desura/CDN-of-your-choice is not an arduous process unless you've intentionally made it so. You should be able to automate it easily.. if you can't, what are you doing coding a game?! :)

If a DRM-free version was provided, but only updated every 2 months (so it lags behind Steams version for a bit).. that'd be fine with me. I just don't want someone else (Valve) having control over whether I can install and play my games, either intentionally or unintentionally (by their client not working today).. when they aren't strictly required for the game to function.

When I release my game, I will be putting it on every platform that will accept it. Maximum choice for everyone!
