how to cover a tunnel while you're in it?

I'm just screwing around in the game on the first prison and it occurred to me that I never tried to tunnel out before.

I've googled my fingers off but I cant find a way to cover your tunnel while you're digging it. like if it's passed lights out and you have a bed dummy so you can do your digging at night, how do I make sure the guards dont see the hole in my floor while I'm in the tunnel?

OP asked how to cover a tunnel WHILE inside of it, something I don't think you can ever do.

Still pretty sure you can do that while inside.

I specifically remember trapping my self inside a tunnel before.

Yes. You can put dirt over the hole while inside the tunnel, but that's the only way you can cover up the hole while inside it. You probably already know how to cover a hole outside of it.

Anyways, if you just dug down, and want to cover the hole, you'll need to place a timber brace right under the hole before covering it, because it won't allow you to if there isn't a Timber Brace.
