Ylands Dedicated Server, I need help
I have installed the Dedicated Server and started it.

But I always get an error message (ServerMonitor.exe is missing) and there are only a few files in the installation directory.

What am I doing wrong?

please help

Dedicated servers were free so we could test them in Early Access. Now you can get them from the Ylands in-game shop (we have recently lowered their price). But if you want to play with friends, you can also play peer to peer or using the unique sharegame feature for free.

You are not allowed to host your own dedicated server any more... gotta rent one from them (and only them).

Thanks for the answer, but...

If it is not allowed, why is the server in the steam library? Also, I'm quite sure I had it installed before.

I have no interest in renting a server.

Too bad that you can no longer host servers yourself. I am very disappointed.

LOL, such a small company Leeching money on dedicated servers you host on your own hardware. Another developer I have to add to the blacklist. OMG

The servers are hosted via third party services such as Nitrado though. The game itself is free, there are free options to play multiplayer too. The developers have to make money somehow

It should most definitely not come from dedicated servers.

The PC servers are ridiculously overpriced, for a game with mixed reviews and a dwindling player-base. Non-player hosted servers is the dumbest marketing solution I have ever seen.

While the game is robust and has a substantial amount of offer; having peer to peer sharegame is not a replacement for true multiplayer solutions. They have done this so that they can enforce players paying for maps / region unlocks. Since the option to grind to unlock a region is already there- it makes zero sense to lock out self-hosted servers. With all the traveling you have to do between regions to get the materials you need- you and your friends have to get on each of their own ships (because they cant travel with you) and warp to another region of play (AFTER) the previous non-host launches the first expedition into that map. If the host leaves first, it kicks everyone rather than migrating to another player who may have wanted to stay on their "home" island to continue play until another player returns.

Pay walling multiplayer is ridiculous.
What a pitty. I was going to give this game a wonderful review until I learned about this.
