Steam engine consumes too much

Steam engine consumes too much, it took me 30 minutes to load 400 pieces of wood, one by one, I turn on the engine and go fast and the engine shuts down in a very short time, is there another way to load it or consume less?

i say keep with sails into u can make ylandium engine and generator

Short answer is to use coal instead, it only takes 34 pieces to fully charge the big steam engines and they can be loaded all at once using the mineral basket. The only way to consume less is to not use the engine at full speed or switch to using sails when you have the wind at your back which will make your ship faster than if you were using engines anyway.

There is only one coal item now, mined from coal deposits in Temperate region or found in some Random Encounters. Charcoal still works I think but you can't craft it any more so either hoard it or use it up if you want.
