Underwater Safety: Sharks and Cold Water
I found some floating debris and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get to the sweet treasure below! The water is so cold that I start freezing as soon as I get in and sharks immediately swarm me.

First, is there some kind of clothing you can craft to keep you warm in the water? Second, is it possible to clear out the area of sharks from the surface or will they just keep coming?

There is a neoprene diving suit, but I don’t think that provides much warmth - though the Flippers will give you speed.

The sharks you could lure away, but you’ll be better off just killing them... jump in water and straight back out to make them come close enough that you can bosh them on the nose!

Do you know if they will they respawn, or is it possible to make an area safe?

I will be safe if you clear the immediate area.

Also, the underwater build will either be small enough for you to explore it quickly, or large enough for you to find somewhere to hide :)

... I should add: in Ylands animals respawn by effectively duplicating - there needs to be at least one nearby for a second to appear.

Thanks for your help, I lost everything when I first tried to explore, luckily I spawned relatively close and after being killed over and over and over again by wolves and extreme cold, I managed to make it back to my ship and back to my safe, and warm, home base. Hopefully it won’t take too much work to get geared back up!

if you dig into the sand the game bugs & the water doesn't follow you , you can build under water that way , I had a full base under water because there is air down there

Although I agree that this would be a solution and would never tell you how to play your game, I do at least attempt to play the game the way it's intended to be played. I find cheesing my way through situations such as these to be about as satisfying as cheating at solitaire.

Love this the game, the building is second to none but I mostly avoid underwater exploration and sharks for now. As far as I could tell there is no realiable way to defend yourself yet and sharks are still pretty buggy.
Hopefully the devs do some more work on them during alpha because it takes allot away from the game imo

Well, to follow up on this, I found an extremely effective way (after crafting the breathing mask, neoprene suit, neoprene pants, flippers, and cold resistance potions) to clear an area of sharks and make it safe to dive.

First I parked my boat so the ladder is right above my dive site. Then, wearing the armor that gives me the most protection, I get in the water and stay close to my ships ladder. When a shark approaches, I climb up and snipe it from my deck or a gangplank I added. Rinse, repeat. When you can get in the water and no sharks come, it's safe to put on your underwater gear and go for a swim!

Why bother going underwater anyway? It's so dark on my screen with the brightness at max, I can't really see much of anything....
Plus, you can't use any weapons underwater, so if you go in when it's clear and you're all the way at the bottom, you might as well say goodnight irene if sharks show up : /

We are working on underwater content, so there will be a reason to go under water 😉
