Dedicated server wiped after restart
Is this normal? All of our progress is gone after a regular server restart. How do I fix this?

Official server or your own?

Official I guess, it's dedicated through g-portal.us. Uses a key from my bohemia account and everything.
It might be a configuration problem. The official forums should have a guide on starting a new server and continuing an existing one.
"Official" dedicated server software is extremely experiemental and the devs consider official hosting irresponsible and do not recommend using it (even hosting it yourself) unless you're cool with losing stuff and are okay with things breaking.

I'd wait until they put more work into the server software before paying for a dedicated host.

Anything you lost is on your host and up to them to fix or figure out.
On G-portal, you need to go to your basic settings on the server and make sure you have the save world selected instead of new game. That way when you reset, it doesn't wipe. No way to get the old game back I don't think, though you could always put in a ticket.
I actually installed ylands on my other host, nitrado.net. Well looks like it did the same thing g-portal did and auto-restarted and set the game back to creative, overwriting our explore game save.

I guess I'll just wait a while for them to fix up the dedicated server before I attempt to host again. Thanks for the answers.

G-Portal didn't do it, mine is working fine when properly configured. You have to initially set the server up to start new game in the chosen mode (explorer or creative), then change the DsConfig.json to use the existing save file on restart.

Nitrado has a different issue where the Ylands servers there are overwriting the config files on every restart, making it impossible to switch to Explore and continue a game, because it resets the config no matter what settings you use.

All that said, what APerfidiousDane said still applies - the dedicated server is considered experimental and the Ylands devs aren't condoning these commercial rentals at this time.
Goes without saying, If you wish to run a server, only do it for friends and password protect your server. until development is at a point to not worry anymore.
Using the "restart" command resets the map, this is a known issue. Devs are strongly discouraging any commercial use of the DS at this time, it is meant for testing only.

Note: It is possible to configure the server to keep the map after a clean shutdown.

Dedicated servers are on steam now?
No, but you can request access to a downloadable zip in the official forums if you're interested in testing.

I sit corrected. Wasn't aware they had made it public.

Wait. Nope, that seems to be a completely outdated version.

Like I said earlier, on G-portal, click on your server, then on the settings tab. You'll have a set of options, including a place where it says "New World." Click on the down arrow and select a save file, then save the settings.

This way when the server resets every day, it'll keep the old file in place.

However, as others have said before me, the servers are unstable. I did it for a time with my spouse, but the starving while offline outside a barrier and the map resetting every time I relogged was too much for me.

I'm not working in single player as it looks like the isue with MP maps and starving aren't being addressed as well as they should.

It's a shame since the game runs a lot better on our server than on a high performance PC.
Starvation when offline has been addressed in the 0.6.3 patch and as far as I can tell it's no longer an issue.
