how to get the pickaxe recipe ?

there is no way to craft a pickaxe.. got no recipe

..and even if I would havethe pickaxe recipe... hoe to mine the iron ore to make iron ingot for the pickaxe ?
can I find iron lying around on the floor and pick it up ? Will then the recipe appear ?

First you need the stone pickaxe.
One Stone. One Rope One Stick ( tho' it may be two rope.. but rope is good to have early anyway. )

the pick is already on your crafting menu the stone one. with that you can mine almost everything.
now to make an iron one you will need a blacksmith forge
