Saitek P880 game pad recognized, now how do I select it to use it?

So on the mappings in the game settings I see keyboard and I see my P880 but how do I select which one I want to use to play with? Only the keyboard works.

Game says "Full controller support" so I assume there is a way to get this to work. Do people use game pads or is everyone just doing keyboard and mouse?

You don't have to select if you're using keyboard or controller except when playing split screen, it will be detected automatically and you can even change during a match.
Have you tried to change the mappings in the game's settings? Try to go through all the actions and set them to the buttons you want.
The game is made with Xbox 360 controllers in mind. With some controllers you might have to use a program to remap your input to match the 360.
