Great Naval Battles of the North Atlantic
Does this game "finally" have a great open ended campaign system like what existed in the very old classic GNBNA? I've always wanted a game with a great free/open campaign system like what existed in GNBNA but there has never been one created in ~20 years?

SSi's old Battlecruiser (WW1), and Warship (WW2) did a great job with Atlantic back in the DOS C64 days as well. Too bad no one has moderized them.

The campaigns do have endings, I believe.

Thanks,

Well... of course... so does GNBNA... but you had the whole war and the whole atlantic to play in. And you had naval bases all over, and you could select which ships and what to do with them. I always enjoyed playing the KM and working on sinking as many UK ships as possible. It usually got to the point where I'd get huge convoy attacks by the uboats (which you didn't control in GNBNA) because the UK would be out of ships and convoys would be unprotected and thus couldn't fight back.

Given, the AI was pretty awful, but it was still fun.

The game's campaign is basically an open world, hunt down fleets, capture ports, get war bonds from wins, repair, build up a bigger fleet thing. Unfortunately I can't say if it's like GNBNA since I never played it, though.

Okay, sorry if I misunderstood.

Victory at Sea's Campaigns are open world. You can select ships, in order to build up your flrrt, attack convoys, take ports, repair ships ect. :)

Thanks,

Do you get to chooe which ships your nation builds? Are new ships released over time to you? LIke when playing Germany will I get the Bismark in late 1940/early 1941 and the Tirpitz maybe 6 months later? Would I be able to select the building of the Montana Class or the Graf Zepplelin (Ships that were planned but never started/completed).

@Clthomps: That's a lot of questions. Let's see.

1: I'll answer your first two questions in reverse order. The ships available to you depend on your rank. Each time you rank up, more (generally heavier) ships become available.
2: You can choose to add ships from the available selections (see 1) to your fleet, which you pay for with 'war bonds' (the game's currency). You cannot influence what other fleets do or have.
3: There is no time in the game, no date, and so the only limit on which ships you can buy is your rank.
4: Currently, the ship selection only includes actual ships, not hypothetical ones.

You didn't ask, but I notice you mentioned two German ships. There is currently no Axis campaign, so naturally you can't build German ships in the campaign. This may be added at a later date.
