restarting the core
How do you do this? I dug down as deep as I could and found some iron right by the big hole on lvl 6 so I uesed a nuke now a good bit of lvl 6 is lava so I dug form lvl 5 to lvl 6 and dropped down by the yellow cake stuff and then dug down as deep as I could and spent about 2 hours digging around looking for more iron.

How much iron do I have to find and where is it? Is it all by the big hole on lvl 6? Becues I cant get near that whit out dyeing.

Or do I just go as deep as I can and start nuking every where?

Btw this game is additive

Right now there are four iron fingers, spread out across the planet. There is one (i believe) just north of the Olympus Mons lava chamber, then there is one northwest, north east and southeast of the north pole. I am going to update the guide with a rough map of them and some instructions right now.

so waht do they look liek just lots of iron down by the lova zone?

I actually don't know, exactly. I have been playing and testing this game for more than a year, but I never got to the point where I dug down and found one of the iron cores. I cheated or took shortcuts in the past that no longer exist. All I know is that if you dig down far enough in the right spot you will stop finding basalt (or lava) and run into iron. The patch of iron will be roughly circular. I know from playing around with bombs that if you set one off directly in the middle of a circle of iron, the bomb will create a whole bunch of heat and radiation, and the bomb radius looks to be almost exactly the same radius as an iron finger. Doing that will make it molten. Finding all four fingers and setting a bomb off in the middle of them will increase the planet core temp a bit each time, and release CO2 and N2 each time. When all four are bombed, the volcano will erupt and make more CO2 and N2, and the magnetosphere will start to increase.

If you or anyone finds the cores please send me screenshots with the GPS visible to show where you are and I will add it to my guide. For me, this is the hardest part of the game. It's the 'great work' of Terraformer.

ok im shelving this game for now, thsi find the iron ♥♥♥♥ has to be the dumbest game mechanics i have seen in a while. i spent 6+ hours looking for them today and foudn none.

thers not way to know if your by one but diging down there needs to be some kind of iron detector thing

or have the nukes be hard to make and chnage it to having t droop one down all the volcanoes or some thign where we know where to go its the year 2060 or some thign i bet they maped mars and knew where and waht had to be done

if the dev reads this you have a realy cool game but i think the iron fingers things will piss a lot fo pepole off

that's actually an awesome idea. Make a ledge in the middle of the shaft going down to the lava in Olympus Mons with one block of stone attaching it to the wall. Set up a nuke on the ledge, turn it on, and remove the block holding it to the wall so the entire thing falls into the volcano. Then run. Bomb goes off game detects that a nuclear explosion has gone off in the lava chamber, volcano gets jump started.

Maybe this game mechanic could be implimented without having to change the fundamental way the game generates the world, so people won't have to restart the sim to get it to work, even. Whaddya think, dev?

Games,

Thanks for the input on the iron cores.
I will work on some ideas to make them easier to find.

I think ts a good idea

In the mean time can you give us a good map as to where they are? Thers no way to find them other then luck and I dont even know if the hunk of iron I blew up deep was even one or not
jhaughey  [developer] Jun 2, 2014 @ 7:03am
will do, give me a few minutes to come up w/ them

In the 'Mars' subdiretory there is a file:
Iron Core Fingers.bmp

This is scaled to the size of the world, so..
The coords for the starting point of the each of the fingers are roughly:
72,142 111,341 312,150 396,266

Each time the world is created they reduce in size and meander toward the surface to a depth of 52.

Worst case, the starting coord and the top of the iron finger can be off by as much as +/- 48 in both the X and the Z position.

So, this still leaves you a very large area.
I wanted the releasing of the core to e pretty hard, but not so hard that folks get discourage, like you are.

I will, for sure, make it easier to locate these for next release.

Yes Pease do I went to the coords you gave me 72,142 and dug down and then made large caves in a box grid going out all 4 directions I moved 400 uints of lava rock stuff and never found a hint of iron. Is the finger not right by the lava and higher up? And how wide are they. Or sre you just supposed to dig a hole and drop nukes down it whit oit seeing the iron? And is there any way to hit one if you blind nuke?

mb you can implement an tool like an iron radar that light up if you are (for example) 10 blocks near iron?
maddog_rvo Aug 2, 2014 @ 3:53am
So, i found all four fingers and nuked them, the nitrogen has gone up to good levels, only the air pressure went up to about 1 psi and the core didn`t restart. What should i do now to continue?, i saw that all four nukes created a tunnel to the surface (just like a volcano). The temperature isnt rising anymore, neither is the air pressure

Btw they were all almost against the south pole
