Although i did buy the $10 DLC deluxe pack for the mount and inventory space.
It was designed as a Free Browser game.
Asif trying to get some of that Jagex Runescape money, but it's kinda has a more solid play-style than runescape.
It's like $5 for 450 real money currency, kinda overpriced, but then you see them add "free stuff" for pretty much everything you buy, kinda like they know it's over priced, and the free stuff is not really free but more of a "this is what you really should be getting for your money".
Some info.
1. It doesn't have a pay wall to access any zones like runescape does.
2. There are no progression features limited with a pay wall.
3. In-game gold basically can buy you everything you want.
4. You can buy the real money currency from other players with in-game gold.
5. No multi-quest-tracker, it's purely a single quest tracker, with an ugly interface.
6. Quests are all the same, "go gather this for me, go craft this for me, go kill this, take this to someone for me, finish this dungeon" and then you have the dailies on the message boards and the blue quest markers.
7. The delay bar when interacting, is sometimes too long, asif they just copy pasted the code for the delay bar from 1 thing to everything.
8. The delay bar in gathering, such as mining, the animation for your guy actually puts the pick away, then grabs it back out to go again.. everytime.. he has 2-3 whacks.. then puts it away, then pulls it back out, like the code is just to repeat the first act over and over until the ore is gone, it destroys immersion.
9. The delay bar for eating food, is like your guy stops to pull out a picnic blanket.. then ever so gently sits down to eat, then will sit there the entire time, regardless of if you are at full health and mana or not, then when you action him to stand up.. it's like he's a 90 year old person with a walking aid, he animates to dust off his hands, all so slowly, kinda like he just smoked a joint or is on some lsd and is enjoying the fruit rainbow dragonfly that is flying around infront of him even if there isn't one, this entire mechanic is setup to be a slow process and is quite frankly annoying.
10. Chat window is very basic, you can't customize it at all, you will be clicking back and forth between 2 tabs, 3 tabs if you're in a party, and you won't ever see your experience or damage or a combat log in the chat bar.
More info
1. The top tier stuff like Inventory space, the best possible bag slots are bought with real money.
2. You can reduce cooldowns of most things with real money.
3. You can straight up buy the in-game gold with real money.
4. There are potions you can buy to increase your gains with real money.
5. Some mounts and Pets can only be bought with real money.
6. Some Emotes can only be bought with real money, (yeah really.. emotes)
7. Pretty much all cosmetic Vanity costumes are bought with real money.
8. There are a bunch of quick sell and remote bank and instant repair and stuff that is only bought with real money.
Extra Info.
While there are alot of stuff that is only purchased with real money, there are some things that you can get with in-game gold.
Not everything revolves around the real money.
None of your characters progression is limited by real money.
They have a pretty horrible travel system, you gota run around everywhere, there is no unique Ultima Online recall and rune marking for anything, you literally have to run everywhere, or use the dragon travel thing that is basically just instant travel from town to town.. then run everywhere.
You can't use the map to auto-walk to places.
You can't click very far ahead of you to move further.
If you click on something while mounted, it will dismount you, then run you all the way over there.
You can't stay mounted if you right click and follow someone.
Further Info.
There are no Guilds, apparently going to come to the game sometime in 2015, no-one knows when, just within this year.
There is no Auction House, apparently going to come to the game sometime in 2015, no-one knows when, just within this year.
There are no Mail Boxs, apparently going to come to the game sometime in 2015, no-one knows when, just within this year.
The class balance is kinda weird.
It seems balanced, but majority of people are Mages, especially while leveling, because they just get it easier, they can heal and dps much better than others earlier on, it's only level 45 where people care about balance.
They try to add Gold sinks everywhere because of how unbalanced the economy is.
It's kinda easy to get gold if you enjoy grinding.
They added a Gold cap to free players, because they think free players were ruining the market with being able to buy all the Real Money currency.. kinda dumb really, because everyone just see's the DEVS explain the reasons why and the players just think.. that's dumb.. your reasons are dumb.. some people quit the game once they are 45 and full gear, because nothing else to do, nothing else to bother with, being vastly rich can't be achieved by someone who is a free player, and even then if they subscribe.. all they are buying is the removal of the gold cap..
The incentives to be a subscriber are limited, because there are very few reasons.
There isn't that much of a "fun" game for me to bother being a subscriber, because that's why i would subscribe, because it's fun, not for benefits, because if i enjoy the game then i would support it, but traveling and the limited mechanics with traveling just kill it for me right away.
Also, you can't change spec unless you pay.
You get 1 free respec every 60 days.
6 free respec's a year.
FINAL INFO
PVP..
There is an island called "Trapper's Atoll" where you can go and farm materials for crafting, but it's a PVP zone, kinda like the Waste Lands in Runescape.
The DEVs said they are going to increase the size of "Trapper's Atoll" by adding another 2 islands to the area or something, sometime in 2015, but no specific details, and any confirmation if that they will or not, just that they "want to".
Pretty much all 45's just run around and kill anyone not level 45.. because they can, and you can't stop it.
Sometimes you have other level 45's that will go there and defend the new players who are in "Trapper's Atoll" gathering crafting materials, which is nice, and those people are actually fun and nice people.
Low level players get given a Booster buff, which is supposed to help them fight back against higher level players.
But it's design is garbage, it doesn't work, it just lets the low level player get to shoot back a few times before they die.
You basically need a team of 4-5 to fight back against a level 45, and even then you most likely won't win.. like even get close to winning.
The game has some pretty big flaws, that's why it isn't very popular, but it also has some charm.
If the DEVs put in alot of effort, this game could easily be better than Runescape, but this games been out for over a year, and there are no Guilds or an Auction House, and hte economy is pretty crazy.
For hardcore people, the game is easy, you will be max level in about 2 weeks, with max gold at the gold cap, and be farming for your top armor, then 2 monhts will have gone by, and you will be max in everything, and nothing to do other than be social or help others.
Or you could go and hunt PK's in "Trapper's Atoll" or kill all the newbies in "Trapper's Atoll".
Summary tl'dr
Games decent.
Couple of pay walls,
No character limitations with real money (other than gold cap)
Class respec limited to every 60 days or pay real money. (because thats a legit way to help balance the class's.. not dumb at all... /sarcasm)
Bad travel system. (not unique or fun at all)
Mounts are dumb and dismount too much.
Gold is easy to get later in the higher levels.
You need lots and lots of gold to upgrade things like inventory space.
Not many things to do at max level with max all skills.
DEV update blog is not really specific or detailed with any hints or tips to make people interested and waiting for an update, it's more a "alright thanx for telling us" then back to whatever it was you were doing, like they give no screenshots or the ideas they throw around of how htey want it to work.. nothing, just "yeah sometime this year.. maybe.."
Mages are much easier to level with.
Crafting is kinda useless, except for potions and food and gems, oh and helms.
Crafting is a massive time sink, unless you want to spend real money and get the 50% boost to crafting potion.
Dungeons give you everything you need.
Quests are kinda boring and annoying, most people just grind out dungeons instead.
Lack of an End-Game.
Delay bar is slow for every mechanic that uses the delay bar.
Gatherings immersion is non-existent when the animation just plays the same thing over and over again, so much so they character will put his tools away before having another whack at whatever is still there that the character is gathering.
Hope that helps
While this info is kinda negative, the game isn't so bad.
And hopefully someone else will chime in with more info than i listed.
You can buy in game gold. You can buy xp buffs. These will help you get stronger faster but there isn't anything really from the cash shop that will smash you straight into 'God Mode'.
Graphics are not great. Movement controls can be glitchy. It is NOT a hordcore MMO. It is probably pretty close to runescape in a few ways.
If you are someone who is going to grind 18hrs a day through content to get to max level as fast as you can then get bored instantly and leave you may as well save yourself the effort and go elsewhere. This is a casual game that lacks a few of the more accepted 'must haves' of MMO's these days.
The above poster says 'Quests are all the same' and then lists at least 7 different types. There are a lot of storyline quests and many multistep quests requiring crafting and collecting as well. I can't fault anything much he said but it all up reads rather negative to me which is a little unfair.
It has issues for sure and I wouldn't recommend it for a hardcore gamer. It's light casual fun that you can park up for a day, week or month and come back to later. There are lots of good things to enjoy here if you let yourself but it is a game where you really need/should/want to pay a little attention to the story to really make sense of and enjoy fully.
If you just want to group and powerlevel, mass AE and crush newbies with your overwhelming power and glory then I recommend you go elsewhere.
Plus those types are the entire list of quest variety from level 1 to level 45.
Thats the entire quest type variety you will see from just starting to play, to max level.
Yes what i said was a little negative, and i even stated so at the bottom.
It's not really unfair, since you couldn't fault any of what i said, because it is true, i didn't make any of it up.
Im not a developer of this game, im just a player, and im just telling it how i have experienced it, it's what you see whever you go in the game, not sugar coating it or wording it in a way thats confusing, just plain blunt honesty.
I doubt someone with a green name or a dev will read this, if they do, then atleast they have some critisism to work with.
And i doubt they will take it to heart if they do read it, since i am still playing the game, and even bought the $10 steam dlc.
Although i don't expect to play this game longer than 2 months, if i even get to 2 months.
Ill most likely get bored and go find something else.
1 Gather
2 Craft
3 Kill
4 Take (add fetch and travel in here because it's more or less the same)
5 finish dungeon ( Group and/or soloable with loot restrictions. Repeat for tokens to buy all loot)
6 Dailies (NPC's for the standard kill/obtainand crafting - gathering and skill)
7 Message boards (quest starters but send you to new areas - lvl specific)
8 Blue quest markers (Dailies for crafting so a repeat really)
Then there are the green ones to unlock ressurrection debuff removal at shrines. Still a gather/kill but not something I have seen elsewhere.
PVP
Arena
Storyline - usually multistep (>20) involving many of the above.
Sorry but this is where I pick up your negativity from. Unlike you I don't see this many quest types/options as an "All the same" thing. What other ones do you want ? This comment so early on sets the tone for your post unfortunately. Lots of things in there are really quite good but come across as otherwise.
It's a very detailed post with very few if any actual errors and I am NOT a fanboi to dispute or argue with you passionately. I just don't think you have done the game any real justice. It plays better than I infer from your post so I want people to know that it is not all doom and gloom. Give it a go folks. Just maybe not the OP as I doubt anyone could ever call this game hardcore. Most of the game is free. Cash = fluff, convenience and a way to speed up progression. You wont be as underpowered vs the paying crowd as in other games. You will just need a little more time to get there.
It's a fun game with some real imagination behind some quest lines. Diminutive city is really very cleverly done for example.
It is a little above standard fare for an MMO these days and well worth a download for those after some light entertainment.
The dungeon one i wouldn't consider a quest, because it's just a given for Dungeon Mode, and you get it when you enter, and complete it when you finish, and lets be honest, you aren't doing the Dungeon for the quest, it's just a bonus as incentive for group play, but no-one really cares, it's mostly the dungeon loot you went there for.
Yeah i wasn't trying to lie to the guy.
I just said what the game actually plays like, without the blind fold.
I did say it has some charm, mostly city design and instanced zone layout.
But then there's the draw back from the travelling through it over and over.
The only advantage is the higher level you are, the more affordable faster mount speed is, so you can run through it quicker.
I did say this is a more solid play-style compared to Runescape.
But then again this was designed with issues that date back to problems with resolution and camera glitches.
Like if you have a monitor with 1920x1080, your map and radar will be tiny, and there is no UI scale size to change them.
Eldevin is not above standard, it is standard.
There is nothing in this game that could be considered new to an MMO.
There is nothing in this game that could be considered new to a Free Game.
The only thing this game does different from most other games, is having the "Yes" or "Confirm" Button on the other side of the "Cancel" button.
It is fast to level up to max account level, which is around a month. However it takes longer to achieve end-game content such as max in professions + obtaining fabled gear, as well as fusing gems to achieve "perfect" which isn't very easy to get.
There's dungeons around every 5 - 10 levels, including ascended which is "hard mode".
As this is a indie MMORPG, and with the small staff, don't expect updates every week. It sometimes take them 2 weeks or more to release updates. They do however try post a monthly BTS and keep us updated on their progress like they did when they fixed the camera.
Quests can be a bit boring, but the story ones are worth it. There are also side quests etc.. but usually you don't really have to do them.
There is alot of areas to explore, and mounts are awesome for this reason.
You can buy Eldevin Points with in-game gold by trading other players, so you are definatley not restricted as a free player from the in-game shop.
I'm not big into PVP, so I don't really know how it works. However at Trapper's Atoll, which is a open zone PVP, there is also the Plasma lord that you can fight.
So i did have a firm grasp of the obvious for the End-Game content.
Like bugger all.. just more Diablo 3 type of a gear wheel that goes no-where..
The top gear is to be used.. for.. um.. more end-game content? that.. um.. doesnt exist?
I have been playing this just over 2 weeks.
Have not seen one update.
I was told that the DEVs said in Novemeber 2014, that guilds will enter the game in 2 weeks.
It is now 2015, and almost into the 2nd month, still no guilds.

@Rydia27.
So you have everything unlocked that costs EP?
You know someone had to buy EP.. with real money.. for the free player to buy it off them right?
What would happen if the people who stopped buying EP to sell.. quit the game?
If it was true F2P.. you would not have character slots locked.
If it was true F2P.. respec costs would be either free or gold only, and not have a 60 day cooldown.
If it was a true F2P.. then unsocketing gems would not cost EP.
If it was a true F2P.. the shop button would only open the "subscription" options, and not everything else you could buy.
But everything you can basically get.. just aslong as someone else buys EP with real money and you buy it off them.
Even though in-game gold kinda loses all appeal when you are max level.. with all all crafts at max, with the top gear.
if u must know i have earned over 7000 EP FREE, no scams, no downloads, no installing programs, all you have to do is look at your account properly.
Note to self. "I love this game"
Are you eluding to the "Watch these video's" and earn 5 EP per video thing?
Which is in the "SHOP" under Eldevin.. not in "YOUR ACCOUNT".. you just have to login to use it.
You know i thought i would find out something interesting when i started reading what you wrote, but it turns out you are just a poor person who will do anything to get something free.
Do your parents pay for your internet or something?
Don't answer that, i don't care or want to know anymore about you and your experience with true F2P games for this EP system to be the best you have every played.
I understand you are just trying to kill the Stigma of this game being pay to win.
Which sure, i can agree with you.
It's not hard to see that there are routes to get the EP for FREE.
But those are kind of scum routes, and have been around since the early eras of F2P games, and guess what, those games are long gone.. unable to support themself because the DEVs actually made the game worse and people left.. even though there was ways to get EP for Free exactly the same as how Eldevin offers the EP for Free.
But look at it realisitcally.
They needed to add those FREE ways to gain EP, because there are legit things that need EP, there is no other way to get that stuff without EP.
So buying it from people who bought it with real money in-game, which looks like alot less players are selling EP.. and long term players are slowly starting to not login.
Or spending your time watching the videos outside the game in order to gain something within the game(sounds dumb right?)
At what point does a stable F2P game outsource 3rd party stuff in order for players to gain something that takes them away from their game
And honestly the game doesn't have enough content to stand on it's own 2 feet without the need of outsourcing 3rd party sites, just to get the FREE EP because that's how the game was designed to rake in the real money, and that's easily a sure example the game is doomed in the long term.
And it's not how much money is involved, it's aboutt the game itself, and the direction the DEVs take it.
World of Warcraft is F2P up to level 60 i think or is it 70 now, i don't know exactly.
They don't need to send you to a 3rd party website for you to spend hours away from it, in order for you to gain a currency that will allow you to purchase the games content.
I do hope you enjoy the "FREE EP" while it lasts, because Eldevin probably won't last, hence why it went on steam.
And the DEVs don't even frequent these forums.
Im not quoting a DEV i actually never found the thread, i was only told about it, and the guy never gave me the link to where they said it.
But he did tell me about the update post the DEVs make.
And after reading that i just assumed it was going to take them a long time, because they are kinda withdrawn from talking about things in detail or giving any hints and tips.
The lack of detail and enjoyment that is within the update posts.. shows me that they aren't really interested in doing it.
Either that or they don't even know what's happening as they post the thread, which hints at they haven't even started making anything they posted about.
I think it's because they may change things around compared to what they said like 3 months ago, and it could just dissapoint people.
So sometimes I think we really oughta bribe the devs with cookies to get some info out of them :( haha. They do like to tease us sometimes with pictures though.
And this is the November BTS link on their official forum.
https://forums.huntedcow.com/topic/69010-development-update-november-2014/
The people who write those blog updates, actually have no idea what they are talking about.
They have to go around and ask the real people who do the work and then that person has to create something to write from that.
The only time they add a screenshot is to create interest.. which they would have had from the beginning if they were actually somewhat of a way into making it and could then show what it is they are working on.
So far the only images i have seen shown to the players so far is "concept art" and that's it, actual details are not given until patch.
It's like they don't have any confidence in what they're doing, and that they haven't even started on making it yet anyway.
