Black bars / borders / letter box

How do you get rid of the black bars at the top and buttom screen at 1680 x 1050. its really annoying. totally breaks immersion, feeling like im you know controlling a floating camera.

Been looking around in the config files, changing the letterbox 1 or 0 doesnt do anything.

I don't know, I've also been trying to find a fix arrgghhhh. Hopefully ubisoft will address the issue in the day one patch.

Or how about the Developers take the time to properly develop their game instead of sloppy ports.

Yes we have monitors, but the issue is that we have a letter box format and there's no menu option to disable it

The same letter-boxing happens to me at 6080x1200 as well (Eyefinity on 3 1920x1200 monitors with bezel correction.)

Looking around on various forums for potential fixes... otherwise I might just go back to playing on a single screen again.

ya, same problem. Far Cry 3 ran fine at this resolution with no black bars.

I found the solution about an hour ago, because I had the same problem.

See, Ubisoft did not add any support for the 16:10 and 4:3 Ratios. So, they put in stupid black bars. To fix it, you actually need to download a user-made small program.

EDIT: Look below, or in further of my posts, for updated download links.

It doesn't look legit (it's a simple windows form with one button and looks really shady), but it works.

Your antivirus will say it's a trojan or that it's bad, but it works (worked for me and worked for a couple of people). It's currently the only way to remove black bars.

1) Start the game
EDIT: 1.1) Load into your savegame. Once you are in game, proceed to the next step.
2) Minimize the game
3) Start the program (run the exe)
4) Click on the button (Remove Black Bars)
5) Wait for the confirmation (small black text in the lower left corner)
6) Done! Play with no annoying black bars.

You can thank me later! Now we have to find a fix for the stupid mouse movements...

EDIT : As pointed out, be sure to terminate the process in TASK MANAGER after closing the program. It will not close by itself when you press "x".

EDIT: BEWARE! You need to kill the process in the task manager when you are done with the fix (are done playing). Otherwise it keeps running in the background. If you do not kill the process when done playing, you could get auto-banned by BattleEye and other anticheat software!

How does it look after that fix, does it make it look stretched like setting to 1920x1080 on a non 16:9 screen does (also gets rid of black bars)?

The fix only stretches the image for me.

Well it does, I think, stretch the image, but I havent noticed anything bad about it, personnally. It's way better, in any case, than losing parts of the screen due to these bars or losing edges because of a higher resolution than your ratio.

look again. Im pretty sure it does not stretch the gameplay image.

It stretches the menu screens a bit yes, but not the gameplay screen. (maybe that is why there is no 16:10 support, because maybe the menus arent made for that size, so to "fix" the ugly stretching they added the black bars solution).

When i use this BlackBars Fix i can see more of the screen. I see more of my players hands, watch and gun, than i do with the black bars on. So its not just stretching the image. Dont let the stretched menu and map screens fool you.

p.s. I've noticed the black bar fix crashes my game if I use it on the main menu before loading a save. So make sure to start playing the game first before you tab out to run this fix program.
