// SOLVED // Far Cry 4 unplayable on Windows 10
Since i have random crashes freezes despite having no fps problems I looked through many posts only to see the same guys are copy pasting the same fixes over and over that do not work.
I updated the drivers (R9 290 4gb) killed all background tasks, started steam and uplay in administrator, and verified the game files.
It still crashes at random at a constant 60fps and it seams like windows 10 is just not supported by the game.

Can i somehow start it in windows 7 emulation? Is there anything else I can do?

I'm running Windows 10 64bit and not having crashing problems, so I don't think that is it, or maybe it is something else you have running in the background whlie playing the game. It could be so many things.
If you have anything overclocked, that can cause crashing.
A bad stick of RAM can cause crashing in games that push the limits of it, you can pull out one stick at a time and try it to attempt to find the bad stick of RAM.

Dood, your pc specs are in German, just saying.
-=SOF=-WID99 Jul 7, 2017 @ 1:18pm
use DDU completely wipe your vid drivers out in safe mode .. reinstall them with the latest driver ..if you still have a problem contact AMD support

i had no crashing at all with my old ASUS AMD R 9 270 X
still none with my ASUS GTX 960 . .and still none with my gigabyte GTX 1060

all with Win 10 Pro 64 bit

the reason i say that is AMD has already released bad drivers in the past that wrecked FC 4 ..no its not a lie you can see Proof of it here
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1319893-CCC-15-11-crashes-FC3-4?s=8853d37c4ebb9d3f4643bd564cea943e

as well as on AMD official forums
https://community.amd.com/thread/185026

and they also had a prolem with Far Cry Primal that uses the same game engine with several R 9 cards like the 280 X and 380 cards ..the fix always came down to bad drivers and clean out old ones .. or check your PSU ..i cant find that post .. i knew i should have bookmarked it
see kingfishes post in this thred on how to contact AMD Support
https://community.amd.com/thread/197594

he even said there
If you are having a problem with your graphics card or a particular game...Please report it to AMD. Keep in mind that the more reports sent to the Catalyst engineers, the more attention paid. This is the only way things get fixed. Note that all issues must be reproducible (this is why specific information is required), and submitting a "Issue Report" is not a invitation to a dialog with AMD. Don't expect a reply. Just report it and encourage others to do the same.

also check your power supply .. some times they do go flaky .. had one go out on me a few months ago ..i was playing FC primal and the game kept crashing ..checked ram , drivers , windows , everything .. narrowed it down to the PSU .. and yup once i replaced my 3 yr old Thermale take 550 watt PSU .. a every game ran normal again

anf yea i know you may scoff and say my PSU works fine in other games .. FarCry 4 pushes your vid card more then other gamnes .. thus more power may be needed that your PSU can not handle ..remember AMD cards are always power hungry ..and if ya overclocked anything on your system .. reduce those .. or who knows it could be your 290 card may be flaking out due to heat ..or a loose GPU fan .so check your card too i stopped buying AMD hardware ..once i found bad thermal paste under the fan and cooler in my R 9 270 X ..applied artic silver .. card ran 20 C cooler ..sold it for more then i paid for it ..but yea AMD GPU's run HOT as hell

current config is
Intel core 2 quad Q 9650
Gigabyte GTX 1060
8 gig of ram

also i used my old R 270 X in the same machine as well as my GTX 960 .. had no problem with freezing , only time i got freezing and crashing was with FC primal when my power supply decided to start die out ..everything worked fine once i replaced it

I tried one last thing, setting the far cry 4 .exe into compatability mode windows 8.1, and it seems to have done the trick:steamhappy:

Thank you for trying to help, maybe this works for other people too

ya should have checked the tips section then bro .. its one of the first things i mention in there

http://steamcommunity.com/app/298110/discussions/0/627456486417358966/

to run as an adminstrator ......or set a compatibility mode try this

right click on the games .exe file in the far cry 4 \ bin folder

select properties

select the compatibility tab

check the box that says run as Administrator

set it to run in a windows 7 compatabilty mode

you can also run the windows 10 compatiblilty trouble shooter from that same window

I saw the part about administrator mode but overlooked the compatability mode. :steamfacepalm

None of these fixes worked for me, but I finally got it running by installing the game on C: drive. This was also the fix for getting Far Cry 3 to run (which wouldn't even start). Good luck.
