Far Cry 4 won't start [SOLVED]

Hello,

I've had some serious issues with Far Cry 4 and other Ubisoft games lately. Opening and even trying to uninstall Uplay completely froze my computer and the only thing I could do was restart my computer the hard way. Yesterday I refreshed my Windows 8.1 and reinstalled Far Cry 4 and Uplay. The game worked yesterday, I played for about an hour and went to sleep.

Today I came back and tried to open the game again but it doesn't work. Uplay opens up this time, but the game won't start. Steam won't start Uplay or the game, if I try to open Uplay manually and try to start the game there - nothing will happen.

What I've tried to do about this new problem that I have:

I installed Visual C++ Redistributable Packages and reinstalled DirectX 11.

I reinstalled Far Cry 4 again.

After these didn't work, I reinstalled steam - didn't work. I've also reinstalled Uplay a few times.

Nothing helps and I'm getting so tired of trying to get this game running...


Does anybody know how to repair this problem? :(

Installing drivers 14.12 after using DDU seems to have worked. Thanks a lot man :)

no problem .. i still use those 14.12 's on my old system that has an AMD HD 7750 installed in it ..they worked great too when i had my Asus AMD R 9 270X installed in my main system

i have the 15.7 driver installed in my Windows 10 lenovo Laptop and they work fine as well

Hey man, you seem amazing with games trouble shooting. So let me just ask you a quick question, how do you "run a game on steam and Uplay as administrator"? You mean check the box in the application proprieties that says "always run as administrator?"
And may I add you as a friend on steam?

all you need to do is right click on your steam icon

select run as administrator

do the same for Uplay before you launch your game ...

or go to the games .exe and right clik it

select properties

and check the box that says Run As Administrator in the compatablity tab

or do it the way i have my system configured

here is how i did mine with Win 10 Pro

exit Steam (or make the following changes ..........then restart steam )

right Click on your Steam icon on your desktop

select Properties

select the Advanced tab

check the box that says Run as Administrator

select apply then ok twice to exit

you may get a prompt saying you need to have admin access or is this ok .. select ok either way (hopefully your windows account has Admin access... if not you may need to change that in your Windows account settings )

***Now do the same thing for your desktop Uplay Icon***

then restart Steam or Uplay and try your game again

again you do not set the Admin mode under compatibility mode

you set ADMIN mode for your Steam short cut & Uplay short cut

Yup thank you very much I got it working (fc4). It was the shadowplay incomptability that you mentioned earlier.

try shutting off Nvida Shadow play in Nvidia Geforce experience, the recent drivers have a bug that affects some users with win 10

also since your on windows 10

try launching both Steam and Uplay as RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR

(very Important if your running WINDOWS 10 or doing a file Verify in win 7 or 8)

this games engine was created years before windows 10 shipped and that change may needed to allow the game to write any save files and or configuration files , windows 10 may handle file security \ permissions in a different way then previous operating systems did

right click and select properties on your FarCry 4 .exe file in the games bin folder
you can set a compatability mode for windows 7 if your using windows 10

you can also set the games .exe to run as administrator there too

you can also run the windows 10 compatiblity mode troubleshooter from that same window.

and if you just installed the game from Steam you will need to go to the Uplay website and download and install the updated version of Uplay

steam will install an older non working version with the game

there is a link Provived in the tips section Pinned to the top of the forums to the Uplay website to download the updated version of the Uplay client

and yes VERIFY your game files since FarCry 4 is a rather large download launch Steam as RUN as ADMIN as i suggested when ever you do a file verification

i have helped others in the past that it took 3 tries on Steam until Steam finally picked up that they were indeed missing files in the install directory for this and other games

tried all you mentioned, i even turned off my AVG, run both as administrator change compatability mode for windows 7 but its still not working =(

or try useing DDU to totaly wipe your video drivers and install older Nvidia drivers

like version 359.06 from December 2015
(i have those installed for my GTX 960 without geforce experience)

if you installed windows 10 as an Upgrade you may have problems

i had tons of problems when i did my first upgrade back in August 2015
i made sure WIN 10 was activated .. then wiped the install and performed a clean install of the operating system

when ever you install any upgrade to a microsoft OS you may have problems

another user on the Ubi forums just posted about FarCry 4 Primal also not having permissions granted to install games after a win 10 upgrade
