see section #11 if you just installed the game , Steam MAY no longer install the Updated version of the Uplay launcher with the title , you will have to manually uninstall and download and install the updated version .... the version Steam installs may be outdated

if you have any problems with the version of Uplay Steam installs with your game ...with your game not launching ............ try this first

Save Game Locations for Far Cry 4:
UPlay PC. C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegame\<UplayID>\420.

then go to add remove programs in control panel \ programs and features

remove the Uplay launcher ( uninstall it )

open your PC to where it was installed make sure all folders are removed and deleted,
you may have to manually delete them ..not your games .. just the Uplay launcher

NOW ..

REBOOT YOUR PC (IMPORTANT STEP ) < ---------------

NEXT

Download the updated Uplay launcher from the UBI CONNECT web page
you can get it here https://ubisoftconnect.com/

install it ... and try your game again

if it still fails to launch .. see this post , you may need to remove a reg entry due to a failed steam update in late march 2019 (it did effect all steam users )

very Important if your running WINDOWS 10 or doing a file Verify in win 7 or 8

this games engine was created years before windows 10 shipped and that change may needed to allow the game to write any save files and or configuration files , windows 10 may handle file security \ permissions in a different way then previous older operating systems did

If you have a problem.with the game launching in a window .. try this

your screen may be launching the game in an unsupported resolution ..easy FIX

PRESS ALT + ENTER many games suffer from that, if the game or app is launching in a resolution that's different then your screens * NATIVE * Resolution

C. Also try to limit the number of in game overlays you have open in game

if your not using the Steam overlay.. disable it in Steam \ Settings \ in game

if your not using the Uplay overlay in game... disable it in Uplay settings \ General
as yes too many in game overlays running can cause a problem on some systems

2. Some game controllers cannot be plugged in at all till the game loads fully.and yes may need to be set up in steam big picture mode

3. It’s also possible some firewall or some antivirus software could also cause the game to hang (check your settings to fix it) as I’m sure Ubisoft did not try every single program on the market using all settings.

4. Incorrect file versions for Net Framework, Direct X as well as Microsoft Visual basic C++.
You can download newest versions of these files directly from Microsoft (use Google). These files are also located in the games support directory, so you can reinstall from there as well.

5. Incomplete installations... Use Steam to verify your game files. If you got the game from UPlay you can verify your files there... details on how to do this are located 5 posts down in this thread OR LOOK HERE

6. Old or incompatible drivers. Update all your drivers... checking for updated drivers is always a good idea.

7. Dual Core CPUs will not function properly to launch the game - the game requires a Quad Core CPU...
some Hyperthreaded Intel Dual Core i 3 \ i 5 \ or i 7's Cpu's may work, as they support extra threads ,that this game requires

12. Read the minimum system requirements for any software before you purchase it or install it. If you’re unsure if it will run, ask someone and post your full system configuration: operating system, CPU, video card etc. 99.9% of the posts I do answer the person has a dual core CPU. Again, the game requires a QUAD core CPU or better. AS WELL as A fully Direct X 11 compliant video card and a 64 bit operating system

Try to do the following:

A. Turn cloud synchronization off (uncheck the box near the option "Enable Cloud Save Synchronization.." in Uplay general settings).

B. Locate your FC4 saves folder ("420" or "856" or something else, read the instructions here http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=379620279

and back it up in a different place.

C. Open this folder - you will see a set of numbered pairs of *.save and *.save.upload files (sometimes it's just *.save files). Pick only one of the *.save files and delete all the rest. Now, if the number in the file's name is different from "1", rename it to "1". Sometimes there is a *.save.temp file, you can use it, just rename it to 1.save

D. Load the game, and see if it fixed. If it didn't work, exit the game, restore the content of FC4 saves folder from the backup you made in step 2, and try to use different save file as described in step 3.

In the future I recommend to turn cloud synchronization off permanently and instead regularly backup your saves as described in my guide.
If you do so you can always roll back to one of your older saves that wasn't corrupt without losing the entire progress...

There is also a possibility to recover some of your older saves through general system restore to a previous restore point.

what steps .. its pretty simple ..read the POST

you need to uninstall uplay .. remove the bad uplay reg entry .. reinstall uplay from the Uplay web page so you have the latest version .. try your game again

Let me suggest a new problem and solution to add to your header. On my Alienware Aurora R5 with Nvidia GTX 1080, whenever I started Farcry 4 my computer would flash the logo screen, and then the system would reboot. I spent the last 4 days trying to fix this problem. Finally I figured it out and it was simple to fix. Go to Nvidia Control Panel. Under Manage 3D Settings, pick power management mode and set it to "prefer maximum performance." Now it works perfectly.

did you read the first post of this thread .. ??? it has been updated and yes there is a KNOWN issue with the steam version of the far cry 4 map edit program , as well as a new driver issue was posted in April 2020 with Nvidia's drivers version 445 .75 ..please see the first post as well as go thru the Ubisoft troubleshooting guide here

My dad followed most of these steps trying to get FC4 to work without any luck. I did a few of the obvious short of uninstall and reinstall on the game and uplay client. I did find from logs that his uplay and steam accounts weren't linked. That was in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\logs. Once that was settled I tried deleting the cache folder and the game launched once and only once. I came back here to read through and see what steps my dad may have missed and caught the registry hack above as a possible solution. Huge shout out to -=SOF=- and DATBOIDUCK as this registry entry was finally the hurdle he needed to get the game to launch. Thanks!
