Is there a simple way to do all this?
When I say simple I mean brain dead simple.
you need to uninstall uplay .. remove the bad uplay reg entry .. reinstall uplay from the Uplay web page so you have the latest version .. try your game again
thanks for that!

the fix for the map editor issue has been linked on this thread for over a year now .
as well as mentioned in several posts .
I also had no Uplay folder in my registry. I did have this.
Computer\HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-1001\Software\Ubisoft\FarCry4\856
I deleted the FarCry4 folder, and continued with the instructions.
Everything worked fine after that.
Running Steam as administrator as outlined in the instructions resulted in a warning screen from Steam about running Steam in compatibility mode. I changed that setting back to what it was.
I am back up and running with no issues.
Hope this helps.
Thank you to -=SOF=-WID99 for the guide.
the fix has been on the steam forums for over a year ..
i can not take credit for it .. see the post by jeromeN7

credit goes to [QUACKERZ]_DATBOIDUCK for finding the solution.
My dad followed most of these steps trying to get FC4 to work without any luck. I did a few of the obvious short of uninstall and reinstall on the game and uplay client. I did find from logs that his uplay and steam accounts weren't linked. That was in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\logs. Once that was settled I tried deleting the cache folder and the game launched once and only once. I came back here to read through and see what steps my dad may have missed and caught the registry hack above as a possible solution. Huge shout out to -=SOF=- and DATBOIDUCK as this registry entry was finally the hurdle he needed to get the game to launch. Thanks!

how about getting in touch with steam so they can fix the files they give out with the game so this stops happening ?
