"Far Cry 4 has stopped working"
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

The game was an Xmas gift from my brother (I loved the 3rd one). But, I'm yet to be able to play the game, I just get the "black screen of death" (and the Windows 7 error code quoted in the subject line and the 1st line of the post. When attempting to start to the game, in additon to the Win7 popup error message, I also get an error code generated in my Application Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: FarCry4.exe, version: 0.1.0.1, time stamp: 0x547c8f31
Faulting module name: FC64.dll, version: 0.1.0.1, time stamp: 0x549b10dc
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000001803cf
Faulting process id: 0x15fc
Faulting application start time: 0x01d0249cf46dc3e5
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 4\bin\FarCry4.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 4\bin\FC64.dll
Report Id: 38fc18ca-9090-11e4-b7cc-842b2b98a8d0

Mostly greek to me, but I can tell it is mad at the FC64.dll.

1) I have tried deleting the "FC64.dll" and verifing the files in Steam to have it add that file back (which it does). This made no difference.

2) I have disabled EVERY usb device on my computer (used a ps2 keyboard to start the game) -- same issue.

3) Disabled Firewalls, virus scanning, any other background apps (no change).

4) Updated video drivers (and just about every other driver I could think of). Nada.

5) Completely uninstalled, and re-downloaded and reinstalled. big shocker......same problem.

I'm out of ideas. My system specs are listed below, and I'm very open to suggestions..........

I think the problem is your video card - this game requires DirectX 11 - and I don't believe the GT330 supports it? You may need to upgrade your GPU before you can play.

The GT 330M (laptop) doesn't, but the GT 330 (desktop) actually does support DX11. I'm rocking it: DXDIAG:

Pretty sure it's incompatible mate. A quick Google search on both the 330M and straight 330 seem to say otherwise. You may be able to install DX11 on your system, but the card will be trying to force DX10. It also doesn't appear in the list of DX11 supported GPU's on NVidia's site:

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/dx11/supported-gpus

and - down the bottom of this link - DX10 support.

GTS 450 = below the min sytems requirements ..you might get it to run on real low settings
as it lacks enough GPU power to run the game correctly

buy a better vid card ............. is all you can do ...
You listed a bunch of pointless specs and instruction sets for your processor. :/

Your video card sucks.

That doesn't mean your card supports DX11. It just means you have DX11 installed on your system. AFAIK "GT" cards don't support DX11 whereas "GTX" cards do.

See here: It's a DX10 card.

Hi all

I just downloaded FC4, however, I get "far cry has stopped working" as stated in this thread.

I've read through different forums/discussions, but unfortunately, haven't found a solution.

I have a brand new laptop with the latest specs, 2GB GPU, and DirectX version 12.

Please advise if there's a solution to this problem. Otherwise, I'll ask steam for a refund.

Lastly, do all the other games experience the same issue?

Thanks.

it does not matter if your laptop = NEW or OLD .... it matters if it meets the games minimum system requirements .. if its below them ..... no the game will not launch or run

Dual Core CPU's are not supported by FarCry 4 , this game requires a Quad Core CPU

some laptop as well as Desktop video chipsets also are not supported by the game

see the minimum system requirements on the store page

please do the following if your posting about an issiue with a game crashing or not starting,
post your FULL Steam System info .. this helps ... as no one can say what your problem may be until we know all of whats involved.. on YOUR system , we would only be guessing ....Ok ? thanks !

now look up top in steam look for where it says Help (right above the word LIBRARY)
(you will need to exit big picture mode if you have it active in Steam)

clik on that (it will open a drop down menu)

then clik system information

let that load , only takes a few seconds

once that loads with your system information

right clik on that window

then select all

then right clik again select copy

then when you post back

right clik and select paste on your reply

McAfee LiveSafe – Internet Security < may be blocking ports check your settings if that software includes any type of firewall

and also was YOUR Windows 10 installed as a Clean install or an Upgrade from a previous operating system ?
-=SOF=-WID99 Mar 20, 2016 @ 10:22am
according to this site your 940m should work but only with low settings for resolution and details

remember the system requirements do state laptop chips may work but are not supported

the 940 M only has a limited number of pixel and vertex shader units and also suffers from a low memory bandwidth since its got a 64 bit memory interface and uses older slower DDR 3 memory

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-940M.138027.0.html

so i'd try to update your video Driver FIRST .. especially if you installed win 10 as an upgrade from a previous OS

also in the newer Nvidia drivers there should be a way you can set your Nvidia GPU to be used in your Nvidia control panel

on some laptops the game may be trying to launch off your Intel video chip thats built onto your CPU

since your laptop includes
NVIDIA Optimus Update 2.5.12.11

thats what that software does .. is switch between an on board intel chip over to your Nvidia chip for games .. its possible that that that may not be occuring until you make that change in your Driver software

again newer drivers should help try nvidia driver version 359.06 i'd stay clear of the latest driver for now as it has some issues for many users

also try to get your driver update DIRECTLY from your laptop maker's website or contact them to find the right driver for your chipset as some laptop makers can refuse warraty service if you do not use drivers provided by them should something go wrong

and it has been reported by several users some Nvidia reference drivers with Windows 10 fry's out the laptop screen ..rendering it DEAD

its been a problem since windows 10's release
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/862417/geforce-drivers/windows-10-geforce-drivers-are-killing-samsung-and-lg-notebook-lcd-display-panels/

and Nvidia does include a warning when you download reference drivers from them about your laptop maker possibly refusing service

i'd give this driver a shot if you can not get one from your laptop maker
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/900924/geforce-drivers/geforce-hotfix-driver-359-12-for-geforce-860m-notebook-gpus-released-12-2-15-/

since it was released to fix specific laptop problems
