I've been working on a mod to enable lower-end systems to play FC4, and here it is in all its beta version glory. It may or may not work online / co-op. There are no gameplay changes, but I don't know how Uplay handles multiplayer stuff. If it doesn't work, just swap back to original files and all will be well.

Your results may vary. This version of the mod will only work with FC4 game version 1.5

This mod reduces texture quality on many objects throughout the world. You can see a sample here: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/104123[2]

Please keep in mind that while playing the game the ugliness of the textures will be much less jarring and personally I feel like you get used to them pretty quick.

This mod isn't meant to look pretty, just make the game playable smoothly for those who couldn't do so otherwise.

If you have a lower-end graphics card I'd be happy if you could help me test this. If you have a graphics card that is at, slightly above, or slightly below the minimum requirements - this is for you!

In extremely limited testing using otherwise the same graphical settings, I've achieved these results:
* One system went from ~35 to ~55 FPS
* One system went from ~25 to ~45
* One system went from ~35 to ~45
* One system went from ~15 to ~25

Highly speculative, but cards such as NVIDIA GT 540 / GTX 450 / GT 630 / GT 740, ATI Radeon HD 5800/5700, Intel HD 4000/4500, and any similarly low-spec mobile versions (460M, 540M, 630M, etc) may run the game at playable FPS with this mod.

Note: You still need a quad core CPU, 4GB RAM, and a 64bit OS. This mod should help with slower quad-cores (slightly) and slower GPU's (more so), but that is all.

I suggest you turn the following features OFF:
AO (Ambient Occlusion)
AA (Anti-Aliasing)
Fur
Trees
Godrays
Motion Blur

Once the mod is running, feel free to turn these features on one-by-one to ensure they work properly. I strongly advise against the NVIDIA Enhanced Fur option (Fur: ON seems to work OK).

I suggest running at LOW graphics preset and then changing Textures to Medium or High. You may need to switch graphics to High then back to Low for this mod to kick in. Turn off motion blur!

I would be very appreciative of any feedback you can give!

Please include your system specs (CPU, RAM, GPU+VRAM) your settings, as well as your before AND after FPS. If there are any textures that look really bad and jarring, I may be able to indiviually fix certain textures without affecting performance markedly.

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:

You need to extract the .zip file and place the patch.dat and patch.fat files in your farcry4\data_win32\ folder.

I would suggest making a backup of your original patch.dat/patch.fat files as well as any savegame. You can always re-download the original files, but making a local backup will make it easier/faster to revert to the original state if the mod doesn't work right. Don't be surprised if it crashes, it is the first version after all.
