And we know everyone keeps their OS clean and functioning properly and keeps their drivers up to date and doesn't botch overclocking etc etc... there are many variables that make it NOT that simple.
Aren't you by that assuming that most PC players are dingbats who don't know the basics of how to operate a PC? I can see that might be the case for the more casual crowd but anyone who can build a PC usually also know how to protect it as best they can and don't complain to the dev about mods they had nothing to do with not working? But I don't know this for a fact. It just appears that most of the people who have issues with the game are the kind of people who build their own machines and then a handful of laptop owners who are completely clueless.
Edit. I got my wife an Acer laptop a year ago and the amount of bloatware that came with it, simply boggled my mind. I can see how almost any program would get confused in that environment.
