i would not reduce settings i would increase fan speed with msi afterburner or evga precision...and if that doesnt work i would RMA that ♥♥♥♥ bc the card shouldnt be getting that hot.
Even so, it's in your best intrerest to keep the temp as low as possible, and msi afterburner and evga precision as mentioned above are great tools for that.
I use the EVGA Precision Tool to keep my GTX 680 from never reaching above 75 C at max load by using the fan curve tool, plus I also use adaptive v-sync in the nvidia control panel to limit it to 60 FPS, as higher FPS also means higher temps.
You'll probably just have to play around with it, which is why I use a curve, so it's not any set fan speed, but increases gradually with temperature, and goes to 100% if it gets to 75 C.
Couldn't tell ya if mine reaches those temps as I'm not concerned over that in my rig. I have a really clean rig, wires go through the back plate, all wires are measured to be exactly the right length no slack. six 120mm case fans, a cpu copper cooler the size of a grown mans face and a metal/glass case that weighs 65 lbs that was desgined for max performance. BUT I will say, when I put my hand back by the GPU and vents towards the back, I do feel slightly warmer air. Most games the air that blows out is cooler than room temperature.
TL;DR unless you're overheating 83 C is nothing to worry about. If you hit upper eighties (87) then do something bout it.
You shuld be on 80c though anything above that means you may have to update your case fans/setup.
80+ celsius is pretty hot for nvidia card. not saying its bad but if the card is downthrottling, which he will be able to tell by using msi and looking at gpu clock, then it IS objectively bad..
typically temps are way overblown, having them cool is a luxury, for ex my case is made of ivory , that ♥♥♥♥ is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rhinoceros teeth or something, its always cold. but im a multibillionaire so its no concern for me.
Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about, 980 normal load temp is 80-81c search over the web!
For 780ti is 83c on full load btw.
i still say he is ok, but king of koch, i must say you are GAY.
I've put the setting all over the map and while lower settings do stave off the heat for a bit, it eventually runs up to 90º anyway. It's not an immediate problem, but I worry about prolonging that kind of temp stress shortening the life of the card/s.
My brother is also having this problem. His over heated to his system's fail safe power down threshhold. Mine hasn't done this yet (think my fail safe is 102º), but I wonder why it runs so hot. I've checked the web and only found results for this issue for FC3, nothing for FC4 yet.
And before the Good Idea Fairies flock to the U.S.S. No ♥♥♥♥... Fresh thermal paste, clean heat sinks, abundant cooling, dust free, etc. etc.
This is straight from Nvidia's website.
