GPU temp questions
I recently bought a gtx 980 and with everything maxed out in this game my GPU is hitting temps in the low 80's. (The highest its gone is 83)
1) Is this safe for the card
2) Should I lower the settings
3) Anything else?

pretty sure thats too high...nvidia should be prettty cool, like below 70..if its too hot the card will downthrottle...if its not downthrottling then i guess im wrong and its ok.

i would not reduce settings i would increase fan speed with msi afterburner or evga precision...and if that doesnt work i would RMA that ♥♥♥♥ bc the card shouldnt be getting that hot.

What would be a good fan speed? I have already downloaded MSI afterburner.

I believe at about 80 C, the 980 begins to throttle down, although its max temp is somewhat higher than that.

Even so, it's in your best intrerest to keep the temp as low as possible, and msi afterburner and evga precision as mentioned above are great tools for that.

I use the EVGA Precision Tool to keep my GTX 680 from never reaching above 75 C at max load by using the fan curve tool, plus I also use adaptive v-sync in the nvidia control panel to limit it to 60 FPS, as higher FPS also means higher temps.

You'll probably just have to play around with it, which is why I use a curve, so it's not any set fan speed, but increases gradually with temperature, and goes to 100% if it gets to 75 C.

honestly i just do a straight line connecting 2 points low at around 20-30%, 20-30 degrees, the high point i put at 70 i think, i guess if the info above is correct you could set max at 80 if the noise bothers you. this will be LOUD but i usually have white noise on anyway + headphones & i dont think my gpu has gone above 60.
I have a GTX 980 and this game will make the card run whether or not it's warranted. Are you talking 80 degrees farienheit? If it's farienheit then no worries. If it's celcius, I wouldn't worry about it either. 98 degrees is max temp for our cards. These cards were meant to run more efficently and use less power but depending on your setup, your card could be reacting normally to the conditions around it.

Couldn't tell ya if mine reaches those temps as I'm not concerned over that in my rig. I have a really clean rig, wires go through the back plate, all wires are measured to be exactly the right length no slack. six 120mm case fans, a cpu copper cooler the size of a grown mans face and a metal/glass case that weighs 65 lbs that was desgined for max performance. BUT I will say, when I put my hand back by the GPU and vents towards the back, I do feel slightly warmer air. Most games the air that blows out is cooler than room temperature.

TL;DR unless you're overheating 83 C is nothing to worry about. If you hit upper eighties (87) then do something bout it.
80c is normal on full load, the card throttle at 84-85c and shut's at 95c.
You shuld be on 80c though anything above that means you may have to update your case fans/setup.

98.6 is max temp for the human body before fever...i think ur confused.

80+ celsius is pretty hot for nvidia card. not saying its bad but if the card is downthrottling, which he will be able to tell by using msi and looking at gpu clock, then it IS objectively bad..

Yeah it's 80C btw.

it seems like yr just barely in the clear...make sure the gpu is always running fullspeed, if its not, you def need to turn the fan up. bc either its downthrottling (apparently not the case based on above info) or its not even at full capacity & still drawing those temps so if u play a game that maxes it out itll probably overheat.

typically temps are way overblown, having them cool is a luxury, for ex my case is made of ivory , that ♥♥♥♥ is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rhinoceros teeth or something, its always cold. but im a multibillionaire so its no concern for me.

98.6 F, not celcius. If it were 98.6 C you would instantly die.

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about, 980 normal load temp is 80-81c search over the web!
For 780ti is 83c on full load btw.

hmm well normal load temp is 80 81??? how come mine runs over 20 deg cooler??? pal? just bc i have an ivory case & the best handpicked equipment built by hand just for me??? maybe so but id still like to see where u get 80-81 is normal....it is very close to THROTTLEPOINT. that means, NOT GOOD.

i still say he is ok, but king of koch, i must say you are GAY.

Yeah, he is definitley homosexual for saying my graphics card temp is normal.

Getting the same general result here for some reason. Dual HD 6990's which on the rare occasion reach 75º in other games, yet here they're running 90º in FC4. Friggin' smokin' hot. I'm running MSI with an overshot fan curve to keep them in check, but this game puts them to the limit!

I've put the setting all over the map and while lower settings do stave off the heat for a bit, it eventually runs up to 90º anyway. It's not an immediate problem, but I worry about prolonging that kind of temp stress shortening the life of the card/s.

My brother is also having this problem. His over heated to his system's fail safe power down threshhold. Mine hasn't done this yet (think my fail safe is 102º), but I wonder why it runs so hot. I've checked the web and only found results for this issue for FC3, nothing for FC4 yet.

And before the Good Idea Fairies flock to the U.S.S. No ♥♥♥♥... Fresh thermal paste, clean heat sinks, abundant cooling, dust free, etc. etc.

This is straight from Nvidia's website.
