Killing Civilians
What is the point of making civilians killable if I instantly die for killing them? It's like I have free will but I really don't. I don't like it when a game tells me how I should play and it makes it seem linear despite being able to roam around. I mean here's a list of things off the top of my head that is better than just dropping dead as punishment:

- People see you on wanted posters and call the royal army on you when they see you.
- Take away large amounts of Karma, denying certain quests until I get to a certain Karma level.
- Take away large amounts of rupees as fines.
- People hate you so they increase the prices for you to buy and decrease the price when you sell.

Anything is better than just dropping dead on the spot which is a lazy way of punishing the player. If I want to kill civilians then let me kill civilians, my moral choices are my own and I don't need a game telling me what I should and shouldn't do.

So why dont you go try out your moral code in real life and see if anyone tells you what you should or shouldnt do or punishes you for it.

You sound like the protype ignorant wanna be libertarian, screaming rights and freedumb. Only you forget your right to swing your arms wildy around ends at other's noses. There are plenty of games around that cater to the sociopathic interests and clearly advertise it.

I killed a civilian while trying to defend them from animals in a karma mission... I just gave me a message that said Do Not Kill Innocent Civilians or something like that. I guess it eventually determines you're an a-hole just killing innocents to loot them if you do it enough. lol

Either Far Cry 2 or 3 had the friendlies yell "traitor!" and attack you if you killed them.

It is a step backward if you just die from killing the wrong people. The game can already do the mortar barrage, so even if it just bombed you to oblivion it'd be way better than having you just drop dead (if thats the case).

Sometimes the most interesting things in an open world game are how it reacts when you do something you're not supposed to do!

I haven't died once for killing an "innocent civilian" or a member of the golden path for that matter. I played on "Normal" difficulty, I don't know if that's something incorporated into "Hard" or not.

Agreed @Elliot i was using the Rocket Launcher you get from completing all L quests and i added the scope that locks on vehicles and when i tried to kill a group of Royal Army soldiers with the launcher it locked onto a Civilian vehicle without my knowledge because of the bullets flying at me and i died instantly i agree there are other ways to punish the player without instant death this is somewhat lazy the devs could have used more sense and getting Karma back up is somewhat easy sense there are scrimmages everywhere.

I got minus bonus to karma when I kill by mistake any civilian or golden path member. This is also acompanied by "What are you doing?!" comment from the nearby golden path soldier. I can imagine that when karma is low I will get bullet in the head instead of just a comment.

Hey Pagan thanks you for all your hard work

I found this feature annoying as well. In my case, killing more than one civilian in a row resulted in instant death. I think it is because of the actual ideology of Karma, not just the point system, that reciprocates whatever action you do to other people. Too bad Ubisoft took this concept way too seriously and screws you over for violating it.

Seriously, the only time I've killed civilians is accidental friendly fire while foolishly trying to SAVE them from the ridiculously frequent and deadly packs of wild dogs. If Kyrat was a real country, it's entire population would be dead of bites from 40lb dogs by the end of the year. If you want to have a high karma level, AVOID trying to save civilians.

PS, this game is terrible.

Well, you won't instantly drop dead, that's for sure. You know what will happen? Exactly what he said should happen in the game.

I once reached a point where the only way to spend money was to run out, shoot all of my RPGs at civilian or Golden Path vehicles then go back and buy some ammo.

I wish I could just join Pagan. Too bad the secret ending just ends there.

I beg to differ.

I'm not sure what happened to me, but once I reached max karma it just froze there. Now I can do what I want and I won't loose karma levels. Maybe because you only lose points, not levels.

I think it should let you kill whoever and just penalize the karma. Instead this game insta-kills you when you kill a few civi's.

I personally try to avoid killing civilians and my Golden Path comrades, although accidents do happen...

But nevertheless I do agree that the penalty should be reduced karma and other problems relating to that, not an instant death penalty.

I'm thinking about how they did it in Watchdogs, which is to allow you to kill innocents if you want to, but the more you do, the lower your rating is - 'Menace' is the lowest on WD, and it would relate to a very low karma score in FC 4, I suppose, but in Watchdogs all that means is you have citizens calling the cops on you on sight quite often, as well as being far more likerly to call them when you're seen stealing a vehicle, and even refusing to sell to you, which IMO is a much better system.
