Save Game - How is it handled on PC?

One of my pet peaves is playing games ported from other platforms that force you to reach certain goals in order to save the game's progress. I like to be able to stop at any time and save right where I am. How does the save game feature work in FC4? Thanks.

My experience: similar to Blood Dragon you have to complete the first goal before the game auto-saves. No save button. In Blood Dragon you even had to finish the first chapter. Not so bad here. You'll see checkpoints. When you die you respawn at that checkpoint but if you quit, you will have to start from the beginning. After reaching the first tower you will get a save button.
I played offline for a while and saving did not work properly. Now I play online and I can save anywhere anytime. Works fine.

Thanks cassiels. So what I'm hearing is that you have to spend some time to reach this tower but after you get the save button you can save anywhere/anytime and quit the game. When you come back it's as though you never left from where you were? I can live with that. How far into the game is it before you reach this tower?

Um, cassiels is, I believe, mistaken...You can save at any point just by pressing escape and clicking save or save and quit. I have never had a problem saving in offline mode. When you re-enter the game, you will appear as you left (reference equipment) at the nearest safe-house.

That is why I mentioned this is my experience.
There are other posts about this issue who had the same.
I'm glad you have a better experience.

RDJim, either spend a long time searching for "saves" on this board (I logged out of Steam for an hour and there were 80 new posts) and read other players' complaints, or just play and try it out. Either way it'll be fine after a while.

Save is a bit messy atm, if u want to quit just start a mission and then quit, when u rejoin the game later youll be where u started the mission

But then you have to watch the cut scene again. I think the best way, is to go a sleep, and wake up, because you get the save icon, and you will be back at the exact same place.
