Frame rate drop/hitching fixed
I've seen a couple posts in random threads that have mentioned this once or twice, but I never really payed any attention to it really. Just didn't seem to get a lot of attention. This game has a texture streaming problem and it's BAD. My system (i7 3820, 16 GB DDR3 RAM and GTX 780Ti SC) is perfectly able to handle this game on max settings at 1080. Even the Geforce Experience optimized it for max settings. Though when you try to play on Ultra, very high or even high textures for that matter, you get random sudden frame drops which result in horrible hitching, yeah? I still got an average of 70-90 fps even when the textures were set to ultra, but the hitching just made the experience unenjoyable to me. I listened to the community's advice and set the textures to medium. Game plays flawlessly now. No hitching whatsoever. Which is strange because the textures performance is supposed to have little to no difference according to Nvidia's charts. Low compared to ultra textures has a minimal of 1-2 fps difference. I hope this is brought to Ubisoft's attention because this is not normal.

TL;DR, I set the textures to medium and left everything else maxed out (with exception to anti aliasing which is at SMAA) according to other people here on the forums and now the game plays great. I hope this helps others as well!

You just saved my life. Well, maybe not, but you did give me a steady framerate <3. Thanks bro!

You're right. Setting the textures to Medium or Low is the only way to alleviate this problem. However, it substantially degrades image quality, so a patch is needed.

I'm just glad you aren't one of those people who are claiming changing some settings in the XML file or in NVidia control panel will fix the problem. Those people have no idea what they're talking about.

The only way we'll be able to run High/Very High/Ultra textures with no stuttering is for Ubisoft to patch the game. This is what efforts should be focused on.

yup. Only working fix for stuttering so far. Now we just have to wait until they fix mouse acceleration. Then it will be finally playable.

They didnt fix the stutter till this day, but they improved it by far and it's almost not noticeable.
The only way to completely get rid of it is like the op said to set the textures to medium.
Thank god I didnt jump right a head and bought this crappy port.

My rig is 5 years old

i5 core 4 2.67ghz
upgraded over time to 16 gigs of ram
upgraded video card over time to a Zotac GTX 760
Resolution is 1920x1080, my monitor is a 32' widescreen LED tv.
ran every game extremely well until FC4.

Installed an EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 4 gig

Now I run FC4 all settings on ultra, Invida Enhanced whatever, god trees on etc.

I'm getting 60 fps fairly steady and game looks like I’m outside looking around. No fps drops, no stutter or glimmer while I’m still or swinging mouse around.

If you’re having problems, get this card. The 970's run good stock but this card is professionally tweaked and runs fairly cool.

Good to see this is still happening.

Playing on i7 4790K H110i / 32GB DDR3 / MSI GTX1080Ti Sea Hawk @ 1920x1080
GPU@29C / CPU @ 50C
OS and games on seperate SSD's

I am only trying to run it at a stable 60FPS and it randomly screews up and drops to 45FPS - 50FPS No problems with any other games.

A Water cooled GTX1080Ti should smash this title come on Ubisoft.

Where is the incentive to buy Farcry 5...

EDIT:- found the problem it would appear to have been NZXT's CAM software once again causing problems playing games what a POS.

A tweak I found a while back that fixed the stuttering is the following in one of the config files -

File location: c:\users\<your profile name>\my documents\my games\far cry 4\gamerprofile.xfl

Set in the gamerprofile.xfl file as this will take away stuttering in the game -

GPUMaxBufferedFrames="1"
