Overlay not working
So, I have absolutely no issues with this game, other than the steam overlay isn't working. It works on Far Cry 3. Why not this game?

I figured it out. Couldn't find this post again. It's DirectX programs such as Fraps, DXtory and Xsplit. Disable those and the overlays should work.

Thank you! I didn't have any of those on, but if anyone is searching and they still don't help I added the Far Cry 4 .exe to Rivetuner and enabled custom 3d draw. Instant overlay activation.

I've also got this problem -- Steam overlay not working. I've disabled the Uplay overlay, but no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks :)

Like I said, it's FPS counter overlay programs and overclocking programs.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback, but I use neither, and, it worked for the first week or so, and then suddenly stopped. Not sure what else to try.

you can reinstall Uplay and or do a second launch "through Steam" after closing the game out. Steam overlay should work now coincide with Uplay.

So it's a Uplay game, but for the first time, I've added a shortcut (non-Steam game) through Steam. So, I launch it through Steam, and as Uplay is running anyway, it gets launched via that DRM. Like I said, it worked for the first week, but then Uplay did a game update, so I'm *assuming* that's what broke it. A re-install of Uplay will *probably* pull down the same update, so I'm not sure I'll be any better off. I'll try a reinstall of Uplay though, thank you.

have you checked your taskmanager to make sure everything was closed properly that might hinder the Steam overlay from coming up? When you add shortcuts to games through Steam it will only and only launch (in this case) the FC4.exe and Uplay which is DRM that will launch with it. It will not load up Steam overlay because you bypass that with the shortcut only being directly connected to FC4 and Uplay folders.

Unusual, because it worked for a week or so. I keep a very clean rig, so no additional 3rd party stuff that I don't need. Even tried restarting, and also tried launching Uplay first (as read in another psot somewhere), then Steam, then running the FC4 shortcut. Seems it stopped when FC4 was updated through Uplay last week sometime.
I would re-image, but don't want my browser cache to chage, which might affecting trading (Steam card trading during the Winter Sale) :)

Might take another look this evening. It's quite frustrasting now. Been looking for a solution for about a week now.

I'm also going with "Uplay broke it". That's my gut feel right now, as I keep my rig clean for gaming.

ps. I've also read some other DirectX apps can affect this too, so might dig a little deeper with procmon or something. Not finding anything useful out there about Far Cry 4 in specific.

I'll investigate anyway, and will report back :)

Just FYI, for me it was Razer Synapse (the general tool that allows me to set the various layouts on my Razer Orbweaver keypad) that appeared to be causing the problem; if I close that before starting Far Cry 4, the Uplay overlay then works. (Once I've gotten in to the game, it appears I can restart Synapse so I can get my keypad back to the correct settings.)

Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood both work fine without having to close Synapse.l

I'll file a trouble ticket about this.

Had a similar problem recently but with the overlay in Uplay.
Found this thread from Google.

The solution that helped me was to use "Custom Direct3D Support" in RivaTuner.
I'm using MSI Afterburner.

F12 didn't worked, Shift+F2 didn't worked.
Wasn't even able to take screenshots within game.
Tabbing out Alt+Tab didn't worked either.

No errors.
