I figured it out. Couldn't find this post again. It's DirectX programs such as Fraps, DXtory and Xsplit. Disable those and the overlays should work.
Like I said, it's FPS counter overlay programs and overclocking programs.
I would re-image, but don't want my browser cache to chage, which might affecting trading (Steam card trading during the Winter Sale) :)
Might take another look this evening. It's quite frustrasting now. Been looking for a solution for about a week now.
exact same problem here worked for the first week using the non-steam game and after the update ubisoft broke it
ps. I've also read some other DirectX apps can affect this too, so might dig a little deeper with procmon or something. Not finding anything useful out there about Far Cry 4 in specific.
I'll investigate anyway, and will report back :)
Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood both work fine without having to close Synapse.l
I'll file a trouble ticket about this.
Found this thread from Google.
The solution that helped me was to use "Custom Direct3D Support" in RivaTuner.
I'm using MSI Afterburner.
F12 didn't worked, Shift+F2 didn't worked.
Wasn't even able to take screenshots within game.
Tabbing out Alt+Tab didn't worked either.
No errors.
