[UPDATED: 11/24] PC Patch 1.4.0 - Black Screen Issues
UPDATE: November 24th, 11:00AM
Patch 1.4.0 has been released, and is now available for download.

Patch Notes
  • Fixed the "black screen" issue PC players were experiencing when certain USB peripherals were plugged in.
  • Fixed the "grey screen" issue some PC players were may have encountered after the Outpost Master Mission.
Additional Information
  • This patch was to address the issues players were having with the black screen caused by certain USB peripherals, as well as the grey screen after the Outpost Master Mission only.
  • It doesn't include any of the issues we have previously talked about in our Patch 2 Preview[forums.ubi.com], or that have been reported to our Dev Team for investigation. The black screen was high priority for us and we wanted to get this particular fix out ASAP.
  • This is a PC only patch, and you should be seeing Version 1.4.0 in the bottom left of your screen from the main game menu. If you are playing it on any other console, you will have a different version number.
  • The issues with black shadows for those of you running SLI is a seperate issue, and we're working with Nvidia to correct this.
If you are still experiencing a black screen on launch, please contact Customer Support.

__________

We've heard the community and are pleased to say that we have been able to remedy the issue (identified in our Known Issues[far-cry.ubi.com] list yesterday) causing some PC versions of Far Cry 4 to go directly to a black screen due to the presence of external USB devices. Some have been able to temporarily fix this problem by disabling USB devices and certain drivers, but we realize this is in no way ideal. For that reason, this Friday, November 21st, we'll be releasing Patch 1.4.0 for PC that should remedy the problem and allow PC players to enjoy the game as normal.

Though Patch 1.4.0 will contain additional fixes on release, we wanted to let users know that the black screen issue has been tackled. An update containing the full list of fixes will be posted to the blog prior to the patch being released on Friday.

If you have any further concerns, please contact Customer Support.

Please Note: This is unrelated to the Game Update that some players were able to download earlier.

Update: November 21st, 3:30PM Due to a minor delay this patch may be pushed to sometime early next week. We apologize for the inconvenience, and will update you if we have a new ETA.

Yeah, leaving a game-breaking bug in for 2 more days is totally "on it."

Meanwhile we're stuck waiting til friday to play a game we've had for days.

It's unacceptable to be honest.

Remember when patches weren't a thing? And games had to, you know, work when they actually came out?

whomever rammed through this game in this deplorably broken state deserves to be thoroughly beaten with a chainsaw.

... I didn't have any black screen, but I do now since the new patch...

also I usually had to restart the game a couple of times before it accepted to launch, atm it seems it just doesn't want to at all, pretty horrible experience so far tbh...

please fix the stuttering too. It's terrible and many, many people have this problem, even those of us with good rigs

ah ok... erf lol I didn't read the "in the patch that'll be released on Friday"... still terrible though but at least there's some hope I guess. Luckily knowing the "quality" of the publisher we've kind of braced ourselved and didn't plan on playing before today... I guess we'll have to wait one more day... next time we'll have to plan for more wiggle room I guess ^^

found a way to fix the issue for me, in My Document/My Games/ rename or delete the "Far Cry 4" folder, it'll reset the settings and it fixed the issue for me, now the game starts again

Hope it fixes the game stuttering. I get that issue on all setting presets, and in all window vsync modes despite having a GTX 970. The game really isn't enjoyable when it's constantly hitching.

Unplugging all my USB devices besides (obviously) mouse, keyboard, and gamepad --- and "quitting" USB helpers from the sys tray (e.g. Logitech, Razer, Steel) meant I could get past the black screen of death and play the game. So this patch helping sounds "likely" to me.

I did the same. Doesn't work. Maybe because you bought the game on Steam instead of using the disc?

Anyone know why I can bring up the map (M), I can see the symbols but not lines, I tried to
adjust a few things in the graphics menus, but it didn't help. the minimap on the main screen
is also symbols only. Any ideas?
