Patch 1.7 - Black Screen

My game was working fine before installing the latest patch, but now on startup I encounter a black screen with the game still playing in the background. The games sound and menu system is still functional and I can hear all menu screen music / sound effects but an unable to see past a black screen. Has this issue happened to anyone else?

No problem, I share your pain lol.

Try disabling any superfluous virtual joystick/HID device in windows' device manager if there is any.
I just read some mice and keyboards were causing problems...
Try unplugging the mouse and starting the game with the keyboard and vice versa (seriously... if this does the trick, I lol hard. very unlikely though since it used to work before 1.7)



"I don't know if I was having the same "black screen" problem as everybody else but even after 1.4 I was still basically unable to play.

-Launch to unresponsive black screen
-Alt-tab out and back or shift-tab to steam overlay removes black screen and allows game to continue.
-Some screen changes cause black screen to come back - transitions between loading screens, going into/out of settings menu, cutscenes starting/ending, etc. Alt-tab again removes them.
-Ridiculous load times, at least 3-5 minutes
-Very poor performance from the start, even the initial logo splash screens were jittery and had distinct hard pauses
-If I managed to get into the game(most times I got a loading screen that loaded to another loading screen that eventually kicked me back to the menu) performance was a slideshow even on lowest settings.

I finally tried the "remove all USB" devices fix and all my problems are gone."

The folder contains config files, maybe they're corrupt but I doubt it.

(I did this already in the hope that it would solve my crashing problems but it didn't, the game still worked so it should be safe to do)

according to ubi mod xMiiSTY the download wasn't a patch just the DLC

you could try unplugging / disbleing that controller in windows start up as i do recall it solved the issiue for some one on the Ubisoft forums

and yes it says you dont have it plugged in .. i am just telling you what i saw on the other forum months ago

think they just right cliked on it and exited out of it before launching the game as it was auto loading in the taskbar with windows start up

DAEMON Tools Lite > make sure thats not running / auto loading with windows start up as thats a known issiues in some ubisoft titles

and try to eliminate all programs running you dont need open to play a game that are auto starting with windows on start up

not sure on this one as well it may cause issiues

CPUID HWMonitor 1.26 > so try exiting out of that as well if you have it running

you may need to check your setting in Nvidia control panel on that .. i dont have an nvidia card i use ATI and just a single 40 inch TV as my gameing display

again the game hates anything that creates an overlay i dunno why.... i just know it does .. the less you have running in the backround the better

as FC4 is a resource HOG

if all that fails my guess would be contact Ubi tech support on that error code your getting

as i have not seen that one come up yet
